The Assessment Of Landscape Potentıal Of Istanbul-Rıva Stream And Its Surroundıngs
The sustainable usage of natural and cultural resources gain to importance rapidly these days. For this reason, the natural and cultural resources should be planned and managed by taking their sustainable usage into consideration together with the basic principles of ecology, in a way to realize the social, cultural and economical development of the society.
This study has been planned to set forth the environmental interaction between the present usage decisions of Riva Stream and the impact areas, and the biotic resources such as flora and fauna, the natural and cultural resources where abiotic factors such as soil and water, including all the pressure that may come from the surroundings within the urban and rural improvements. Riva Stream that is within the borders of Beykoz and Çekmeköy Districts is the most important water course that takes part in the adjacent areas of this region. Besides, there are many tributaries that support the Riva Stream.
The best method to reach the goals aimed in this study was evaluated using methods developed by the synthesis of the landscape evaluation method of McHarg (1969) and hydrological risk analyses. Using these methods it was tried to expose the optimal land use directionally sustainable area using plan as define the agriculture, forest and residential for Riva Stream and its surroundings. The aim of the thesis was to perform an ecologic landscape potential assessment in watershed scale taking optimal land use and hydrologic risk assessments into account.
