The Preparation of Modified Silica-Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles And Using As Adsorbent

Recently, the studies on the nanomaterials are significantly increasing related to the development of nanotechnology. Having different properties of nanomaterials used in different areas depending on the necessity have been prepared by the scientists. Particularly, intensive researches have been made on the sensitive materials as medium temperature sensitive, pH sensitive, electric and magnetic field sensitive. These particles have been produced and used in various materials. These materials have commonly been prepared by the fabrication of core shell process.

In the present work, the silicate coated magnetic field sensitive iron nanoparticles have successfully been prepared by using sol-gel method. These particles have been modified by coating surfactants to enhance their adsorptive tendency towards organic compounds. First, the synthesized nanoparticles have been chemically modified using aminopropyltrimethoxy silan (APMS). Then, APMS/magnetic nanoparticles have been modified with murexide. The structural analysis of the materials produced in this work has been performed by FTIR. Furthermore, SEM micrographs of the prepared materials were obtained by using SEM.

The adsorption capacity of the modified magnetic nanoparticles in different structures have been examined by using these materials as adsorbents for the adsorption of the methylene blue. The adsorption kinetic, adsorption isotherm and thermodynamic of the modified magnetic nanoparticles have been investigated using the data obtained from the adsorption process and it was found that modified particles have good adsorption capacity for the methylene blue.
