Chartering is the process of negotiating and fixing a ship, usually for the carriage of cargo at sea. Chartering is a exciting process which requires speciality and professionalty on the job. The basic consist of ship chartering involves the technical knowledge of ships, chartering laws, and the economics of supply & demand. This work is designed as a guide on all the above.
When managers involved in the shipping and chartering industry get together, to proceed on the shipping business they have to talk in technical, abreviations, particular of the various sizes and types of the ships and particulars of them. The charter parties, the contracts on which the ships are fixed themselves involve obligations concerning these ship, how they are constructed, managed and dimensions and characteristics of certain part of them. These various terms will initially be confusing to the layman who is getting into shipping business newly. Thus, first chapter involves types of ships, cargoes ships carry and the trades in which they are involved.
Also, in the shipping market the other important subject is the investigation of the freight market by ship brokers. Therefore, our thesis explore the freight market as a whole, its supply and demand constituents, how the market is measured and the advantages of controlling freight. Also, main role of the ship brokers are adverted.
Charter party types, all correspondences during the fixing of a vessel are covered in this work. We thought, this work will be helpful for all parties who are the part of chartering in shipping business.
