A Proposal of Web Based Distance Education Model For Physically Disabled People
Today, education is a phenomenon given very high importance across the entire world. Although the education of people with disabilities is being considered important by pedagogy, a successful approach has not been found.
The focus of this thesis is on the utilization of web-based distance education systems both to improve education opportunities for people with physical disabilities and to contribute to studies about the education of disabled people.
Within the scope of this work, firstly the current educational rights and opportunities for people with physical disabilities have been researched. The results of this research have indicated inadequacies in the educational opportunities for people with physical disabilities. In addressing these inadequacies, various education methods have been studied and web-based distance education has been suggested as an alternative educational method. The different requirements of web-based distance education systems and materials have been discussed and determined for each type of physical disability: visual, hearing and orthopedic impairment. Based on the outcomes of this study, exemplars of web-based educational materials for fundamental computer education have been created for each disability group.
This study suggests a guideline and lists the necessary features of web-based education materials for people with physical disabilities. Based on the suggested guideline, the study highlights an example of a real web-based distance learning environment.
