Investıgatıons On The Usage Of Wood İn Urban Furnıture

Social life area changed by technological, economic, cultural conditions, and common city areas is important for usage in people's life, affects city units and urban furnitures also on the same level. Many works about urban furnitures are important to offer more comfortable life style for people who live in cities. For this reason, these studies are important for city furniture industry's progression.

In this study, First general knowledge about the literature on survey's reason was emphasized . In first part, survey's reason and knowledge about content were given, in second part urban and urban furniture concept, wooden material concept, superior qualities of wooden material, classification of urban furniture, construction features in urban furnitures, production method features in urban furnitures and subject of vandalism were investigated. Besides, in this section, assessment of wooden product usage in urban furniture was discussed.

In third part, survey's Material and Method with survey's work content about urban furniture producer and consumer was detailed. In fourth part, producer and consumer survey's findings were presented. In fifth part, Disscussion and Conclusion part, research findings were evaluated in this thesis which were Turkey's urban furniture sector's constitutinal case and progression findings. Besides, advices were given according to sector's progression and solutions about problem solving.

Conclusions were found as follows:

• 
  In this study, 20 companies were included which produced urban furniture. According to results, it is estimated that nearly more than half of producers belong to Marmara Region (% 60).

  According to survey analysis, furniture producers were not specialized only on one product but instead specialized on more than one product line. As a producing method % 50 produced serial for some products, some products were being produced on order.
  
• 
  63% of the urban furniture producers was based on Turkey standarts in production.
  
• 
  In urban furniture sector, 90% of the producers had raw metarials in 2 ways: domestic as well as overseas. % 75 of producers primarily chose wooden material in production according to the survey analysis.

  In urban furniture production, it was found that producers use naturally grown tree species, mostly pine and oak, and exotic tree kinds which are teak and iroko trees.
  
• 
  Wooden materials often used in the furniture sector are; laminated material (% 32), solid material (% 30), MDF (% 14), and plywood (% 10) according to survey analysis.
  
• 
  % 76 of urban furniture users (municipalities) supply urban furnitures from private companies.
  
• 
  Municipalities in Istanbul (% 55) consume urban furnitures less than 2 years or they renew their urban furnitures in 2 years.
  
• 
  Urban furniture used in Istanbul have been mostly produced from wooden material, and consumers primarily choose rather than urban furniture that is made from wooden material.
  
• 
  It was revealed that % 75 of urban furniture producers do not know vandalism.
