Hydrogeologıcal İnvestıgatıon Of Gebze And Dilovası (Kocaeli)

This study was submitted to the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science of Istanbul Unıversity in Partial fullfillment of the requirements for the master thesis in Geological Engineering Department.

The study area has been located in Gebze and Dilovası at Kocaeli Peninsula. Geological map of 1/100.000 scale were prepared. At the study Area the sedimentary rocks of Paleozoic, Permo-Triassic, Late Cretaceous-Middle Eocene, Late Oligocene-Early Miocene, Pliocene ve Quaternerary ages and the igneous-volcanic rocks of Permian, Permo-Triassic and Late Cretaceous ages are exposed.

The study area has been separated two basin. First basin is Gebze-Cayırova. And second basin is Gebze-Dil River. Dil River is the longest river in the basin. It is 17 kilometers. The other important rivers are Bag River and Cayırova River. The water sample is obtained from Dil River and Cayırova River.

Hydrogeological properties of the units which is observed in the study area is determined. According to the results, units are evaluated as impermeable, semi–permeable, permeable and karstic, hydrogeological map of the area has been drawn.

In the study area, statical water level was measured and groundwater level map has been drawn. In the first basin groundwater direction is to West. Second basin groundwater direction is to Southeast. Hydrogeology parameter of aquifer is explained. According to the meteorologic data, the underground water potential was measured approximately, first basin, 7.6x10⁷ m³/year and second basin, 1.4x10⁸ m³/year from the research findings

According to the chemical analysis results of Durov, Wilcox, USA salinity lab., Piper and Schoeller diagram has been used and classified. For the Gebze and Dilovası city center and its surrounding area.
