Analytical Investigation of the Steel-Reinforced Concrete Composite Bridge Beams with I-Sectıon and Box Sectıon

Steel-concrete composite I and box-section bridge girders have been analysed in this study. It is possible to separate study in two sections. Firstly, information on the design loads with design controls of I and box-section girders has been given within the context of AASHTO. Secondly, the design of I-beam and box-section steel girders has been studied by a computer analysis program developed.

In the scope of study, loads to be used in bridge design, loading modules to be applied and combinations that should be used have been presented. Controls relating to girder design were exhaustively described. Within the framework of these informations, in Microsoft Excel two different programs have been devised in order for I and box-section girders to be designed and controlled. Within the limits of theese programs, in accordance with the predetermined superstructure and girder section features, load calculations and the moments and shear forces that occured in result of those loads have been computed. Size control, construction, strenght, fatigue and displacement control have been completed by the effects that were obtained.

At the end of study, section properties were determined for I and Box sectioned girders with number of the different spacing and different space lengths. Girder types have been compared by analitically analysing the results obtained. According to the selected girder section properties with the specified span numbers and span lengths, it was observed that in the case of girder being short in span length I and box-section girders were in close proximity in terms of unit weight, on the other hand, the more the span length increased the unit weight of I-section girder increased in comparison to box sectioned girder.
