The Structure Of Hıpparcos Satellıte And An Applıcatıon Wıth The Satellıte Data
Overviews of the European Space Agency's Hipparcos astrometry mission, its history, scientific objectives and observing program, the payload design, and plans for the satellite operations and data reductions, have been given frequently before the satellite launch. The most comprehensive description of the satellite, observation program, and methods foreseen for the data reduction are contained in a three-volume ESA publication (Perryman et al. 1989).
In this study, an extensive review of the literature about the Hipparcos astrometry satellite had been done. The history of the satellite, the general features, technical specifications, optical structure, star identification, information about the observed stars and the resulting catalogs was given. Derived by the Hipparcos satellite data, it is possible to make different applications in many fields. Accordingly, using the newly reduced Hipparcos Catalogue which contains the most recent data, the luminosity function for stars in the solar neighbourhood was obtained. The luminosity function calculated in this study is in good agreement with the ones appearing in the literature.
