Uzbekistan L The proclamation of independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan on September 1,1991, will make a landmark in the history of the Republic. On August 31, 1991 Uzbekistan adopted the Resolution "About Proclamation of state Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
On the 2nd of March in 1992 the United Nations Organization adopted a resolution on the admission of the Republic of Uzbekistan to its membership.
Uzbekistan became a full member of the United Nations and was recognized by over 160 states of the world. The Republic of Uzbekistan has favourable natural and geographical conditions. It is situated in the Central part of Central Asia between the Amudarya and the Syrdarya Rivers. The territory of the Republic stretches for 1425 kilometers from West to East and for 930 kilometers from North to South. In the north-east it borders on Kazakhstan, in the east and south east - on Kirghizstan and Tajikistan, in the west on Turkmenistan and in the south - on Afghanistan
Tashkent Tashkent is the Capital of an independent Republic of Uzbekistan It is a very old city. It was founded more than 2000 years ago. The city is located at the foothills of Tian-shan mountain range lies in the Chirchik river valley. The population of the city has already grown up to more than 2000000 people.
There are several monuments and historical buildings of muslims such as Kokaldosh madrasah and Barak-khan mosque which were built in the 16th century.
Tashkent has now become the most modern city of Uzbekistan which has new avenues, squares, high buildings and fountains. The city is flourishing as never before. The transport facilities are good enough: there are buses, trolley-buses, trams, taxis, underground, railways with several beautiful metro stations decorated with traditional Uzbek culture.
Shops And Shopping The face of the towns and villages in Uzbekistan is changing. We see new houses, schools, cinemas and shops in every town. Shops are very important in our life. There are different kinds of shops. Some of them sell bread, others have tea, sugar, coffee, butter, cheese, sausages, meat, fruit. When we want to buy something, we take our shopping-bag and go to a shop. There we can see shop-girls and shop men who sell things.
Many people do their shopping at the market. Farmers sell the vegetables and fruit which they grow themselves there. They sell meat, milk and other things too. Big shops with many departments are called stores. In these stores we can buy almost all we like. In the windows we see all the things which they sell there-food, suits, dresses, coats, boots, shoes, radio and TV sets, and many other things.
When we want to buy clothes we go to a department store. It is a big shop with many departments where you may see shoes, clothes, textiles, linenjewellery.
