Taliban attack a US patrol with small arms fire, killing a soldier of 10th Mountain, Evan O'Neill, 19, and injuring 2 others. Bagram propaganda center says 2 of the attackers were also killed.

At 2 PM US planes bombed house of Badshad Jan, 2 kms. north of Angoor Adda, according to eyewitnesses. No one was luckily killed becuae two men of the house were away and the 2 women were fetching water. Also, heavy US bombing and fighting in Birmal, captured by Taliban over a month ago.

On Wed. Night, ~16 Taliban attack a 2-vehicles patrol carrying troops, killing 10-18 of them (possibly also 2 adolescents riding along). Helicopter gunships called-in, allegedly kill 'four suspected Taliban guerrillas' according to suspect source (Gen. Atta Mohammad of Kandahar). Others sources like the AP report 1 Taliban killed.

A large group of Pak. Forces and Cobra attack helicopters move into village of 50-60 mud compounds, Baghar, about 2 kms. from Angoor Adda at 5:30 AM, Tuesday. 12 Cobra helicopters strafed the village, destroying houses of 3 tribesmen - Sakhi, Anar Gul and Saloomay. Pak. troops arrested 10-18 persons (incl. 4 Chechans, 6 Afghans) Journalists and locals claim ~30 persons killed incl. tribesmen. The Pak. Operation was probably launched to impress high-level American visitors to Islamabad (Armitage and Rocca).

In July 2003 after the 14-day Operation Warrior Sweep involving US and Italian troops, US set up this new fire base in Zormat. Since then, it is frequently attacked by 107 mm. Rockets (incl. on Aug. 16, 2003).

Taliban attack vehicles of the NGO, DAFA (Demining Agency for Afghanistan), wounding a DAFA employee and destroying 2 vehicles. DAFA worked with UN demining agency. On Friday, attackers also held up and stole a car belonging to Mine Dog Center in Zabul.

~ 15 Taliban attacked US patrol on Sunday night. Firefight ensues in which Bagram propaganda center says 1 Taliban killed. Also on Sunday, 2 other US bases struck - one called Ghecko near Kandahar hit with 4 rockets and another near Jalalabad hit with 2 rockets. Ghecko base is regularly struck by rockets.
