Fighting erupts between local police and a former military commander who worked with US forces, Haji Idress. 4 Talibs stop a car believed containing journalists of the Christian Science Monitor whom they sought to kidnap. Only an Afghan driver was in it. Talibs beat him up and stole the vehicle.
Taliban capture uncle of Ghazi governor ( Asadullah Khalid), Ahmad Shah Khan, an important tribal chief, and his 2 sons. Kidnap them in early October, saying they'll swap the 3 for Taliban captives.
