US troops and war planes attack militants in Day Chopan when ~200 Taliban attacked ANA soldiers. Heavy fighting and 8 militants killed. Second combat experience for the 22nd MEU Marines unit which arrived in region in May 2004. Some 500-800 Taliban said to be in area led by famous one-legged commander Mullah Dadullah.

At 1 AM, some 20 militants attack road workers camp, firing RPGs and assault rifles, killing 112 Chinese workers. An Afghan guard also killed and 4 other Chinese workers hurt. This attack occurs in area which western media proclaims is “safe” just as the area of Baghdis where 5 MSGF workers were killed. Taliban’s Hakimi claims responsibility.

Pak jets and helicopters bomb the area in preparation for a Pak ground force attack.
