A US patrol hit with small arms fire and it returned to its Shkin base. On Saturday (the 28th), 12 persons ambushed another patrol ne of Shkin and Apache helicopters were called-in. On Sat-Sunday, US bases in both Orgun-e and Gardez were hit with rockets.
3-4 rockets hit various spots of city, incl. near a military base and the UNICEF building. No injuries. US forces are at the base. UNICEF official said rockets were aimed at the nearby military compound.

A bomb explodes near pulpit of mosque during prayer time, injuring 24 people. The mosque was @ Mullah Abdullah Fayaz, who had chastised the Taliban for betraying Islam. Fayaz is an avowed close ally of Karzai and headed Kandahar's ulema. Two days later, July 2nd, another mullah, Maulvii Hamd-ullah, is gunned-down in front of his mosque.
