Human Rights Watch issues 59 pp report detailing how US forces loot, torture and kill prisoners in Afghanistan. Conditions at US military bases in Bagram, Kandahar, Jalalabad, and Asadabad are appalling. US troops operate outside all rules of law using “cowboy-like” tactics. The New York Times reports that US forces have detained at least 1,000 Afghans in a “climate of almost total impunity.” On March 10th, 250 Afghans from southeast Afghanistan arrive in Kabul to protest these US excesses.
