Thoughts, studies, ideas on Kobushi Ho history as written and researched by Togo, Sensei are acknowledged as great achievements in the area of Martial Arts.
He was distinguished for his achievements by King Son Ga Sei for his effort toward the Secrets of Shorin Kobushi Jutsu and in the systemization of Chinese Shorin Kobushi. His work on the Hand Way was and is still recognized by scholars and historians alike as a great works of literature.
However, some well placed critics made him break off writing more information on this subject and even resorting to threats to keep this information secret.

The reason they gave for this was to keep the origin and its practices secret so that this style does become diluted through improper dissemination.

The learning of Chinese Kobushi Ho today is a little more open today than 100 years ago and with current records and historical accounts it is more important now than ever that this information get passed around and studied by all as I think it would benefit all mankind.

Togo Sensei was a very talented man whose influence and advice was revered by all who knew him. His detailed works on Chinese Kobushi Den needs to be read so as to know what value this art form could be to mankind.
Togo Sensei had a chance as accounts go while studying abroad in 1920 Japan to meet a person who supposedly had first hand knowledge and access to historical accounts previously unheard of on Chinese Kobushi Ho however, through no fault of his own his was unable to keep this important appointment. If he had, he could have acquired valuable information augmenting his own on this ancient art form.
In a book he wrote earlier the first chapter he had written was on Shorin Bu To Shu, and in this chapter he introduced and touched upon Hijishin. Also in this chapter there were writings and thoughts of Rieiko Sensei's on Kobushi Ho, which was done in 1969. From this another book was written. In this book Rieiko talks of Togo Sensei's work on Chinese Kobushi Ho. Togo Sensei life started in 1897 and ended in 1959. He lived in poverty as a youth and at the age of ten (1907) he was suspended from school for studying other subjects than was required. He was observed studying and writing about Bujutsu because he so badly wanted to learn the martial arts.
He started learning Kobushi under Tokugawa no Ryushin Nan no Sensei (1907 1927), Later he left because he wanted to study abroad learning about governments, law, Judi, and Kendo and after strengthening his knowledge base with Nihon Bujtsu. He then returned to his home, only to leave a second time to learn even more. Togo Sensei's life was one of practicality, honor, and affection.
Bujutsu techniques he often said were related to the good of the family and mankind. By practicing Kata intensely one could come to understand oneself better by developing a better attitudes, spirit and body posture.
This was much akin to a new flower opening up for the first time. The how though was up to the individual. Togo always stated all is in the Kata.
Again to learn more about this man and his art one will have to research and study in places were this art was taught i.e., Shorinji, Buto Yama, and Chinko. By researching the arts in these areas one can gain a sense of better understanding of how this art developed and how it was taught.
The International Bujutsu Kai has quite a bit of information that would help the reader in his research. One will probably be criticized in doing so as this information although should be known by all might not be suited for all.

These writings I think are also very important when researching or writing about Kobushi Ho.

Togo Sensei's writings are an invaluable source of historical knowledge, which should be shared by all. These fine literary works are or should be considered points of view or opinion in most cases. It is left up to the reader or researcher to make any final determinations as to whether these arts are good for mankind or an individual.

For example 0 Sho Gaku, Chinka Ho no Chin Shi an

article by Mr. Chin which must be read and practiced in order to understand, unlike some articles which can be read and be understood readily. Some research material that exemplifies heroism by certain characters in history can often be wrong or misleading if not looked at in the right perspective. Often times these writings, which are archaic, tend to lead readers if not understood properly will create more questions than answers. But this is also good for the novice as he reads more he gains a new perspective on historical research.
During ones lifetime historical records on Bujutsu are plentiful but very old. In recent years new documentation has been uncovered which either refutes or corrects previous written records. There is a need then to produce reprints of previous written material, which would then bring everyone, up to date.
This information once re published will clarified old information and or new inquiries and in the case of some people as has happened of late, there were many Sensei who were supposed experts of Kobushi Ho from the late fifties have since disappeared from public life. Strange isn’t it?
Togo Sensei is known as a man of talent and virtue. His works have always been accurate. There were those who refuted his findings. Those who did disappear as mentioned above strengthened his posture and a historical expert who before was scoffed because of his findings.
I think Togo Sensei had so much experience and did so much for the martial arts that he was awarded posthumously for his works. He was noted for his scathing editorials on other martial works for many years. Those who have access to his
We are very fortunate and those who have studied under him are even more so. They have acquired a very valuable training base. Those who have followed in his shoes know what is going on.

The paragraph on Chinka Taikyoku Kobushi no Rekishi must be studied thoroughly. A laborer-publishing house published the preface to this particular writing in 1958. It talks of the inheritance of the Chinka Dai Kyoku Kobushi and who is current resident expert. There are (5) People who keep records for this old style. This work was first on the list to be published during this era. It was run right next to Togo Sensei's writings. After these publications both above-mentioned authors released many other publications also. This began a new era. Many authors shined under public review because of the extensive research articles on a variety of specialty arts.
Even though this happened late in their lives they knew that the public and the press were accepting their articles and this pleased them and made life easier knowing they were considered as experts. Also during this era there are two more books being prepared for printing and subsequent release which are Shorin Buto and Naika Kobushi Ho no Kenkyu. Chinese Kobushi Ho Shi Kenkyu is a book which all should read. If they do they would shine as the author has.
Since the collapse of the Manchu Dynasty, Kobush-Ho has opened up and it has appeared in many martial arts articles. Or research papers. A major effort is ongoing by all groups associated with Kobushi Ho to spread the word of this ancient style. The two groups involved in this effort are the Shorin Ha and the Buto Ha. Most people criticize the old ways as not being effective or useful and criticize the old ones who brought this style out of the shadows and into the light. Some say this art is tainted by a demon shadow or Kido Shugi, and that the political arena has tainted this art with their narrow minded non knowledgeable mind sets. They also say that bad breeds of men are proliferating this style. Not the case I think, as do others.
Once news of this art surfaced many years ago people raced to learn this art and its techniques. They trained in this ancient art and became talented, virtuous, prosperous men and in some cases excellent Sensei. Once people see the data available they agree this is a wonderful art, which promotes prosperity and common good. Two other books one must read are involved with the grading system and development of power.

Eki Kin Kei is the base substance on which Shorin no Bujutsu is based on. This must be read and researched thoroughly. I think those Togo Sensei points toward are the important aspects of this art and one’s research/study coupled with intense training involving the mind/body/spirit. The results if pursued will be apparent. These books have a wealth of knowledge for those who dig it out. In the near future the studies of Togo Sensei will become more and more available to people who want to know the real way.
