Cincinnati OH

Joseph Heberle (Hoerdt branch) was a trade unionist, the founder of the teamster's union and member of the central labor council in Cincinnati. Joseph Heberle proposed that street cars be provided with an enclosed vestibule (cab). At that time the driver was in the open, exposed to the elements. In those days water troughs for horses were only in front of saloons. Joseph Heberle agitated for the city council to provide water troughs. He was also instrumental in having Sunday funerals abolished, so that drivers could have Sundays off. Joseph Heberle b 1866 in Rulzheim, Germany. He lived in Cincinnati in 1890-91 and probably died there.


In Cincinatti OH there is a Heberle Elementary School located at 2015 Freeman Avenue. About 950 students attended this school in 1998, c70% African-American and 27% white. The school was built in 1929. The building contains many decorative features, including a tiled fountain dedicated to Joseph Heberle. He was an early school advocate, winning support for free textbooks in the public school system.

Johann Georg Heberle (b 1841 Rulzheim), wife Theresia Kern, sons Josef (b 1866) and Jacob (b 1878) and daughter Maria arrived in New York 1882. The family separated when his mother d 1889. Maria was crippled and was sent to live in Chicago. She returned to Dayton some time later. Joseph married, lived in Cincinatti, had 2 children but unfortunately the whole family was lost after a pleasure boat sank in the Great Lakes.
Jacob Heberle (b 1878 d 1950 Dayton) attended Holy Trinity Grade School in Dayton OH. Jacob was a tool and design engineer with General Motors. He m Balbina Kraus in 1904 and had 7 children (Walter, Oscar, Lauretta, Margaret, Helen, Rosemary, James).
Walter V Heberle senior (Hoerdt branch) b 1905 Dayton d 1976, was employed as a building maintenance supervisor. His wife Florence M of Davisburg; formerly of Dayton, d 2005 at age 97. Preceded in death by her husband Walter and both sons, Gerald Clarence & Walter. She was grandmother of Geoff (wife Melissa) Heberle of MO. She was a nurse.
Jacob' Heberle’s daughter Margaret was a telephone company engineer. Margaret's brother James was a sales engineer with Sheffield Gauge.

Walter Heberle (b 1930 Dayton, d 1977 MO) lived in St Louis MO. He is the father of Geoffrey Heberle, mechanical engineer, who lived in St Louis MO in 1995.


Dr Gerald Clarence Heberle (Hoerdt branch, b 1932 Dayton) was a history lecturer in Oakland MI. He was a Rhodes Scholar and studied for his PhD in London, researching English history. He was assistant professor in English at Michigan University at Royal Oak MI, until his sudden death in 1989.

He graduated from Academy High School in 1941 and attended the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg VA, where he participated in the US Army Specialized Training Program. He served as a rifleman with the US Army infantry during World War II. He served in North Africa and Europe and received various medals, including the Purple Heart and the Jubilee of Liberty in 1999. Survivors included his wife of 53 years, Norma Green Heberle; 4 daughters, Christine McGarvey of Columbus OH, Karen Pilewski of Eastlake OH, Connie Adamaszek and Mary Szpara of Erie; 3 sons, Kenneth Heberle and his wife, Brenda, of Botkins OH, Kevin Heberle and his wife, DeeDee, of Alamogordo NM, and Craig Heberle and his wife, Kim, of Conneaut Lake; 2 sisters, Doris Dresbach of Erie and Rosemarie Niebling of Michigan; a brother, Lawrence Heberle of Erie.

He was b 1918, in Erie, son of William and Antoinette Schwab Heberle.He was employed as a toolmaker at Reed Manufacturing Co. for 41 years, retiring in 1982.He was a golfer and bowler. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard L Heberle, in 1978; and 3 brothers, Robert, Harry and Delmore Heberle. Survivors include his wife, Winifred Fromknecht Heberle; 2 sons, William Heberle and his wife, Mary Beth, of Lake City, and Kenneth Heberle and his wife, Kelly, of Erie; 3 daughters, Lois Liotta of Macon, GA, Carol Eller and Barbara Albert of Erie; 9 grandchildren, including Richard Heberle Jr and Nicholas Heberle.
S Catherine Heberle, 98, of Tamarac FL, formerly of Erie, d 2001. She was b 1903, daughter of the late Jacob and Barbara Bader Heberle. She worked for the US Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1965. She was honored for her work by the Secretary of Agriculture.
She was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Katharine Ann Streeter, Mary Magdalene DelPorto, Susan Chimenti, Margaret Mary Pittman and Helen Caroline Sopp; and 4 brothers, Frank, John Peter, Fred Joseph and William Heberle. Survivors include a great-niece, Helen Hill of Tamarac.

 

Mary Ann Hetzel, 90, of Spartanburg SC, d 2001. She was b Erie 1911, daughter of the late Frank and Eleanora Kohler Heberle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew H. Hetzel. Survivors include a sister, Bernetta Marchini of Erie.


Thomas D Heberle was a District Attourney in Erie PA in 1998. He was a member of the advisory board for the Erie county Office of Children and Youth in 1996-98.
Mary Sousa Heberle graduated from Kennedy Christian High School in Erie (Hermitage) in 1969.
Mary E Heberle was a secretary in Financial Aid Office at Gannon University in Erie, in 1999. Married to William J Heberle, they lived in Lake City PA 1994-99.
Dorothea Heberle worked for WNYRIC learning and technology services in Erie in 1998. She was a coordinator in the Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Centre, in School Effectiveness Services in Erie in 1998.

Mark Allen Heberle was Associate professor in the Department of English at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1999. He was born and raised in Erie PA and received his BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and PhD from Harvard. At University of Hawaii he has taught undergraduate courses on Milton and Shakespeare, undergraduate courses on war literature and the Vietnam War, in which he served. For several years he was managing editor for Biography, a university journal of life writing. He has taught undergraduates in London during semesters abroad, and was a visiting lecturer at British College in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. His research interest is English Renaissance literature, with publications on Shakespeare and Spenser. He has also published literary biography and Vietnam war literature. He co-edited a book on how children's language ("Infant tongues: The voice of child in literature" 1994). In 1999 he produced a book length manuscript on the Vietnam war writer Tim O'Brien.
Ann Amon Heberle d 1992 aged 94. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred H Heberle, in 1972. She worked in the Cathedral Prep cafeteria for a number of years.
Donald F Heberle, son of Fred Joseph and Ann Amon Heberle of Erie PA, d 1993 aged 70. Don had been an auto dealer for the past 50 years, primarily located at W 23rd and State Streets and known as State Sales. He graduated from Academy High School. He was a life member of Erie Maennerchor club and involved in the Make A Wish Foundation. He was a supporter and sponsor of the Blind Bowling League. He was an avid fan of Gannon University basketball.
Hazel Swanson Heberle d 1992 at her home. She was a resident of Erie all of her life. She was an East High School graduate. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, bowled with the Lutheran Ladies League. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert W Heberle.
Delmore Heberle d 1986 Clearwater FL, aged 73. Born in Erie, the son of William and Antoinette Schwab Heberle. Delmore was president, founder and co-owner of Sheldon's Carpet Inc in Erie, until retiring in 1977. He moved to Clearwater FL in 1986. He was a brother of Homer Heberle of Erie and Winter Haven FL. Delmore m Loretta Crowley, who d 1992 in Clearwater FL. She was b in Erie and moved to Florida in 1986.
Theresa Szulinski Heberle d 1992 in Ocala FL, aged 68. She had been employed at Hammermill Paper Co in Erie. She m Joseph C Heberle.
The Rev Frank L Heberle d 1988 in Mount Jolly NJ, aged 74. He lived in South Portland ME. He was b in Erie, a son of Frank and Nora Kohler Heberle. He had been a minister for the Church of Nazarene in Albion and several cities in New York State (including Fulton and Gouverneur) and in Providence RI. He m Ann Schwartz. Brother of George Heberle of Norwalk CA, Joseph Heberle of Ocala FL, Mary Hetzel of Spartansburg SC and Bernetta Marchini of Erie PA. John J Heberle d 1998 in Tallahassee FL, aged 78. He was b in Erie, the son of Joseph J and Lillian McGroery Heberle. He moved from Erie to Tallahassee in 1994. He graduated from Academy High School in 1939 and served in the US Army in WW II. He worked for Erie Brewing Co and AAA Motor Club. He m Doris Williams and had 3 sons, Michael and Thomas Heberle of Erie and James Heberle of Tallahassee and a daughter Patricia Heberle Gray, of Weslaco TX. His brother Thomas D Heberle lived in Erie.
Joseph C Heberle b 1918 Erie PA and died 2000 Ocala FL. He m Theresa Szulinski. She was b Erie PA and d 1992 in Ocala FL. She was employed by Hammermill Paper Co in Erie, before they moved to Florida in 1982.
Peyton Marie Heberle, infant daughter of Brian and Judith Erdely Heberle of Erie, died at birth in 1994. Paternal grandparents are Robert and Cheryl Heberle of Erie.

He has been author/co-author of at least 10 books including “How to Plan, Contract, and Build Your Own Home”, "Quick and easy art of smoking food"(1977) and "Quick and easy art of smoking food - updated for the 90's" (with Chris Dubbs et al; "Home buyer's checklist: "How to plan, contract and build your own home" (1991); "A fool proof guide to finding the perfect house" (1993) with Richard Scutella et al; "The complete guide to four season home maintenance; how to prevent costly problems before they occur" (1993); "The complete guide to making your home safe" (1995) with Richard Scutella et al; "Making your home safe" (1995); " Construction safety manual" (1998); "Winning edge" with H Wallace. He has written magazine articles on home construction, maintenance, real estate, and safety and provided safety support and training to numerous organizations for 20 years.
Richard Heberle is a Bucks county businessman. He was appointed to the St Mary Medical Centre board of Trustees in Philadelphia in 1997.

Heberles from Mittelbach Pfalz settled in Liebling, Austria-Hungary, now Roumania in c1830. Gottfried Heberle (b 1868) m Rosina Heinz in Liebling. They had 2 sons, Gottfried, b 1891 Liebling and John Heberle. John Heberle stayed in Liebling, married and had a son, Gottfried who was killed during World War II in Europe.
Gottfried Heberle (b 1891) arrived USA in 1907. He lived in St Louis MO, before moving to Harrisburg. He m Elizabeth Erk in 1911 in Harrisburg. There were 10 children. Janice L Heberle, 48, d 1995. She was a teacher in the Summit Valley Elementary School in the Eastern Lancaster School District. Surviving her were husband, Henry M. Heberle Jr and 2 daughters, Michelyn of Mechanicsburg and Rebecca of Harrisburg.

Frank C Heberle (Oshkosh branch) b 1866 Oshkosh WI, son of Jacob and Harriet Heberle. He m Maude Phillips in 1894 and had one son, Charles Elmer and 2 adopted children, Margaret and Edwin. He was conductor and brakeman on a railroad and lived in Pittsburgh PA in 1900 and Midway in 1930, where he d 1938.

Frank was a shipper. He m Wilhemina Brunken and the couple had 5 children, all b in Pittsburgh: Gertrud (b 1904), Margaret (b 1906, d 1918), Sylvester J (b 1908), Albert T (b 1913), Helen M (b 1918).
Sylvester J Heberle m Jean Haggerty. Child: Joseph C. Joseph and his wife Joyce have 2 children, Brian and Darla, who lived in Pittsburgh in 1996. Joseph graduated 1966 from University of Pittsburgh. Joyce worked as an administrative assistant with Porter Consulting Services 1996-2001. Darla graduated from Franklin Regional High School in 1988, obtained a degree in marketing from University of Notre Dame in 1992 and a Masters degree in strategic planning from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996. She m William Dudra.

Aloysious/Albert T Heberle, the second son of Frank and Wilhelmina, b 1913 Pittsburgh d 1997 Charlotte NC. He m Sybilla Wessell. They had 5 children. Diane, the eldest m James Winters. The 2nd child, Richard A Heberle and wife Mary Lou, have 5 children; Jill, Lynn, Claire and Richard Q. The four youngest children b Abington PA. Richard A lived in Newton PA in 1997. He was an executive with Betz International.


Sybilla Wessel Heberle, 92, of Charlotte, formerly of Pittsburgh, d 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert T. Mrs. Heberle was survived by her children Diane and Walter Burazer, Richard and Marylou Heberle, Carol Hackett and Donald J and Rita Heberle.
Albert T Heberle's youngest son, Donald J m Rita Regan. Their 3 children (Donald J, Douglas M and Daniel), all b Pittsburgh.
In 1995, Donald J Heberle junior was a salesman in Bridgeville PA. In 2004 he was the national director of the Mellon Family Office, an investment company.  He has worked for Mellon since 1997. He is a frequent speaker about investment strategy and the economic environment, with a particular focus on tax efficiency.  He received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from Harvard University and a Master's degree in Finance and Accounting from Carnegie Mellon University. He m Audrey D’Andrea in 1992. Audrey worked in Duquesne (Catholic) University in Pittsburgh in 1999. She has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from D’youville College. She was a Director of occupational therapy in Washington PA and fieldwork coordinator and instructor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Donald and Audrey have 3 children: Connor, Dylan and Corine.
Douglas M Heberle, son of Donald J Heberle and Rita Regan. b Pittsburgh PA, graduated from University of Notre Dame IN, in 1992. He graduated from law school at UNC-Chapel Hill (Uni of North Carolina) in 1997. A lawyer, specialising in commercial real estate and corporate law, in 2001 he worked for Stern & Kepler Law firm in Greensboro NC, working on commercial real estate. Doug has resided in Greensboro NC since 1997. In 2004 he was Vice President of Downtown Greensboro, Inc., an independent non-profit agency working closely with the private sector and local governments to stimulate new investment and interest in the central business district.  He is also co-owner of The Idiot Box, a downtown comedy improvisational club that has shows every weekend.  Doug has been with the Greensboro Jaycees since 1997.  His wife Lara Szmaj has a degree from Notre Dame and was a credit manager with VF Corp in 2001. Child: Aiden Z.

Bernhardt Heberle (son of John and Rachel Kochler), b 1886, was a train conductor in Pittsburgh. He m Magdalena Kremer c1908 and had 4 children: Clarence A, Howard, Bernita, Russell W.
The eldest son of Bernhardt, Clarence A Heberle, b 1910 Pittsburgh, d 1999 Orlando FL, was an electricity utility worker until 1972. Clarence and wife Edna Hutchinson moved to Orlando, FL in 1972. They had 4 children: Carol, Audrey, Robert Russell, Glenn.
Carol, the eldest daughter of Clarence A Heberle (m Staley), lived in Pittsburgh.
Audrey Heberle, 2nd daughter of Clarence A, lived in Orlando FL, in 1997.
Robert Russell is the eldest son of Clarence A Heberle. He works for Kverner-Davy Minerals in Wexford PA and m Joan. Children: Robert R junior and Linda.
Robert R Heberle junior (Darmstadt branch) is a detective in Beaver county PA. He coordinates police investigators, the Women's Center advocates and Children and Youth investigators in child sexual assault investigations and prosecutions. He is a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to help solve child abuse issues, member of the Beaver County Emergency Services Unit and Drug Task Force. Lived in Wexford PA in 1997.
Glenn Heberle is youngest son of Clarence A. He graduated from Colonial High School in Orlando FL in 1978 and from University of Central Florida in Orlando in 1982. Moved from Orlando to Western Pennsylvania in 1982. Engineer with Westinghouse Energy Nuclear Services in Jeannette PA. In 1997 he was a senior engineer with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh. Glenn m and divorced Colleen Kelley, m Sheli Franciosi 1990, 1 child, Rebekah.
Russell Heberle, brother of Clarence A, grocery store management, m Mary Riley, retired c1975 and moved to Cape Coral FL.
Albert Peter Heberle joined Department of Physics and Astronomy, Arts and Sciences, University of Pittsburgh in 2003. Previously Associate Professor Heberle worked for Corning Inc. and at the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory, at Cambridge University in the UK.

Wilhelm Heberle, father of Mrs Amelia D Lauer, b Rottenburg, Germany 1831. He learned the trade of tanner and leather finisher. Emigrated in 1849 and lived in Philadelphia PA, for 3 years. He moved to Reading and continued working at his trade, until 1863, when he went to Hamburg PA and carried on a tannery until 1869. He then returned to Reading and resumed his occupation, working at it until 1895, employed by the Lauer Brewing Company. In 1853 he m Paulina Goelz, with whom he had 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls. Those alive in 1900 were Amelia D, who m Franklin Lauer; Anna, who m Bertolet Landis; William C, who m Julia Dersch and was foreman of the Lauer Brewery 1891-1900.

Margaret Heberle (Oshkosh branch) graduated from Green Mountain College in Poultney VT, in 1966. She m Don Huff and in 1997 lived in McLean VA.

John Joseph Heberle (Altusried branch, son of Joseph Anton and Elizabeth Ballenger), international labour consultant, specialist in trade issues, early 1991-94, graduated 1960 School of Business and Public Management at George Washington University, Washington DC. Married Winifred Reumont. Children: John J, Mark Alexander, Steven Francis, all b Washington DC. In 2004 lived in Port Republic MD.

Lucile Heberle (Laudenbach branch) b Washington DC, was a trained concert pianist and worked most of her life as a church organist and choir director in New Jersey. Her brother Robert Heberle was a prominent attorney in Richmond VA, where he d 1975. Her father, John Joseph Heberle was a tax accountant and had his own business doing corporate taxes out of an office in New York City while he lived in Montclair NJ.
