4798 1930 Airmail opt on 1/- sepia & olive, Harrison printing, error OVERPRINT INVERTED, in BLOCK OF FOUR! VF fresh M. Stamps are from positions 23-24 & 28-29 & they complete the reconstruction published by Ray Kelly in his monograph on this error. This block was purchased by an American airmail collector shortly after issue, and has remained off the market for the last 86 years, and so they were the only examples of this error that had never been previously illustrated anywhere. SG 117a cat £60,000+++ as singles plus premium for largest known multiple. Only 1 sheet of 40 printed & the "inverted aeroplane" is the most famous error of Papua. Mentions reefs, sand banks, Mission Stations, Yule Island, Port Moresby, Mail Boats, travelling on Pearl Ship Nautilus & his stay in Java. Posted in Egypt in tatty linen lined env. Other correspondence from this man, believed to be the earliest known item posted from Papua, was previously sold in a London auction for many £1000s.
