In 1922 when flying a Vickers "Viking" in England with his old mechanic JM Bennett, the aircraft spun out of control from 1000 feet & crashed, killing both aviators. 1436 1936 Amy Johnson, Record Breaking Aviatrix. Original, signed, personal fuel "warrant cards" & red morocco leather wallet for the England - South Africa solo flight, May 1936. Red Morocco leather wallet 145mm x 100mm with gold embossed logo of Shell - Mex & BP Pty Ltd. Internal clear celluloid inserts containing 2 x original fuel 'warrant cards' (in effect, credit cards) issued by the Company to: 1/ "Mrs Mollison" dated 16 April to 30 April 1936 for Aircraft "G-AECZ" & personally signed "Amy Mollison" (she was, at this time, still married to fellow record breaking Aviator Jim Mollison). 2/ "Miss Amy Johnson", dated 13 March to 30 May 1936 for Aircraft Nos "G-ADDH" & "G-ADZO" - the latter aircraft being that in which Amy flew her England-South Africa flight. The second card is not signed by Amy. Each of the fuel cards bear the Company date stamp & with hand signed authorisation by "C H Field" (?). The wallet also includes a Company fuel Log Book (unfilled) & a yearly "Sunrise & Sunset" card. Both the wallet & documents display a moderate amount of wear consistent with the storage of the item on the person, presumably within the pocket's of Amy's flying suit or jacket. The aircraft flown by Johnson & detailed in this lot were "G-AECZ", a DH 84 Dragon II flown 1936; "G-ADDH" a Beechcraft 17, imported by Amy from the USA in 1935 & in which she made several flights to Europe; "G-ADZO" a Percival Gull Six in which Amy flew her London - Cape Town flight, 1936.
