Cat $75 each. This was an eventful flight, “Aurora” damaged its undercarriage at Calcutta, & “Diana” damaged its tailskid at Camooweal. An interesting subject for an exhibit. AAMC cat $2325+. 1293 1937-38 Inward airmail covers from Lithuania from Henry B Smith correspondence, Kaunas to Melbourne, flown Imperial Airways IE572 (registered), 654 (delayed at Athens due to head winds), 668 & SE37, various frankings, inc high denomination 5L, two types of Par avion label, another curiously with Par avion h/s scored-over although correctly paid for airmail, b/s inc Berlin-Zentralflughafen, Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne -reg has "Telegraph Office GPO Melb". Extremely rare group. Pre-war Lithuanian airmail to Australia was virtually unknown prior to release in the 1990s of a small number contained in the Smith correspondence. (4). $300 $500

1323 Inward airmail covers from France 1931-40. Wide range of frankings inc a number of 16Fr25c & 16Fr rates. The earliest is a reg air cover pre-paying airmail from Perth to Adelaide, other reg & censored noted with a wide range of airmail labels inc 1940 with the label obliterated (not jusqu'a), presumably because air service no longer available. Most flown by Imperial Airways, 8 involved in delays due to engine or other mechanical problems, inc SE199 where “Corio” received tail damage at Tiberias (Palestine) 4 Dec 1939, necessitating transfer of mail to “Coogee” following day -plus 2 to NZ. Flight details lightly pencilled on reverse. Nearly all F-VF appearance. (63). $450 $700

1324 Inward airmail covers from GB inc 1932 (Jan 7) Kingsford Smith flight, mostly commercial, inc perfins, wide range of frankings & rates, 1 with 1½d wmk inverted x11, some printed "Christmas" covers, double rates with 2/6 Seahorses (5, inc reg). 1325 Inward airmail covers from Great Britain 1934-40 interrupted or delayed Imperial Airways mails (flight allocation details lightly pencilled on reverse), spanning flights IE140-655 & SE4-246, inc incidents such as engine & other mechanical troubles, undercarriage damage (IE327), cracked oil tank (IE365), burst tyre on landing (IE437), crew problems (inc cholera injections episode which delayed SE237), adverse weather, the "near miss" IE552, where “Hengist” was destroyed by fire at Karachi after mail had been transferred to “Atlanta”, ”Caledonia” collision with buoy at Athens (IE655), 4 dates between 24-31 Jan 1940 which were among the backlog accumulated as Poole Harbour was ice bound, preventing flights between 20 Jan-2 Feb, o/w no duplication. Some scarcer & higher frankings, inc Seahorses 5/- (3), KGVI 2/6 brown single frankings etc. Flight allocations generally confirmed by b/s & departure dates. Mixed poor-VF condition. Irreplaceable lot, nucleus for an 8-frame exhibit. (105). $1500 $2500
