From German POW in Liverpool Camp. To Germany, with circular "Post Free Prisoner of War PC" & boxed "Passed By Censor SD", both in violet. ASC unlisted. Unusual & extremely rare useage. 1367 Postcard: 1919 use of KGV 1d red new heading, uprated ½d to USA (underpaid), so "Tax 3D" in crayon at left. Some discolouration as on almost all of these due to highly acidic card stock. ACSC P47 cat $1500. Only 2 UN & less than 10U examples recorded as most were surch 1½d, & such useage to USA may be unique. (P) $180 $300

1377 POW: 1944? use of 1/- Air Mail Lettersheet (light toning etc) from German officer in Dhurringle Camp, with censor cachet & "Approved for Transmission by Camp Commandant Dhurr…" cachet, plus censor tape & cachet on reverse. Sent by a Senior Lieutenant from the German Raider "Kormoran" that sank HMAS Sydney II. This camp (actually a mansion house) only housed about 50 German officers & their batmen, so mail from here would be very scarce. ACSC POW2 cat $400 for non Italian use, plus a huge premium for this scarcer camp & historic Kormoran connection (identified by his POW number) (P) $450 $700

1429 1854 QV Diadem 1/- blue, imperf proof, no wmk, with large part of the special "CANCELLED" barred h/s applied by Perkins Bacon. This being one of the so called "Ormond Hill Specimens" when in 1861 Perkins Bacon supplied 6 examples of many of their current & earlier issues to Rowland Hill's son-in-law. Despite the fact that all these stamps were obliterated with "CANCELLED" h/s, the Agent-General for Crown Colonies vehemently objected, & this led directly to Perkins Bacon losing their stamp printing contracts to Thomas De La Rue. VF appearance with some flts at top. SG 99(var) see footnote cat £12,000+ & especially desirable with such a large portion of the h/s. Great rarity as only 6 produced (only 3 recorded in private hands) & a most important NSW "specimen" stamp. Ex Jaffe collection & certificate can be obtained on request. (P) $9000 $13000

This is the only recorded UN example of SG 118a, & more importantly the only lithograph printing UN stamp as no UN examples of SG 118 are recorded.
