Protecting the Integrity of the Person (Article 17)

  1. Existing mental health legislation, policies and practices, especially in relation to compulsory treatment orders (CTO) and the lack of safeguards and resourcing do not adequately protect the integrity of the individual and in some cases actively harm a person’s integrity.

  2. Australia must withdraw its Interpretative Declaration in relation to Article 17.

Freedom of Movement and Nationality (Article18)

  1. Australia’s immigration and refugee policies discriminate against people with disability and their family, severely restricting their freedom of movement and ability to choose a nationality.

  2. Australia must withdraw its Interpretative Declaration in relation to Article 18.
