MONSTER MASH
I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
He did the mash he did the monster mash he did the mash it was a graveyard smash
He did the mash it caught on in a flash he did the mash he did the monster mash
Mash good easy Igor you impetuous young boy uh uh uh uh
From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To catch a jolt from my electrodes
They did the mash they did the monster mash they did the mash it was a graveyard smash
They did the mash it caught on in a flash they did the mash they did the monster mash
The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolfman,
Dracula and his son
The scene was rocking; all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group “The Crypt Kicker Five”
They did the mash they did the monster mash they did the mash it was a graveyard smash
They did the mash it caught on in a flash they did the mash they did the monster mash
Out from his coffin Drac’s voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and he shook his fist
And said “Whatever happened to my Transylvanian twist ?”
He did the mash he did the monster mash he did the mash it was a graveyard smash
He did the mash it caught on in a flash he did the mash he did the monster mash
Now everything’s cool, Drac’s a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living this mash is meant too
When you get to my door tell them Boris sent you
And do the mash you did the monster mash do the mash it was a graveyard smash
Do the mash it caught on in a flash do the mash you did the monster mash

MOON SHADOW
Oh, I'm being followed by a moon shadow,
Moon shadow, moon shadow.
Leaping and hopping on a moon shadow,
Moon shadow, moon shadow.
And if I ever lose my hands,
Lose my plough, lose my land,
Oh, if I ever lose my hands,
Way oh way oh oh oh oh
I won't have to work no more.
And if I ever lose my eyes,
If my colours all run dry,
Yes, if I ever lose my eyes,
Way oh way oh oh oh oh
I won't have to cry no more.
Oh, I'm being followed by a moon shadow,
Moon shadow, moon shadow.
Leaping and hopping on a moon shadow,
Moon shadow, moon shadow.
And if I ever lose my legs,
I won't moan, and I won't beg.
Oh, if I ever lose my legs,
Way oh way oh oh oh oh
I won't have to walk no more.
And if I ever lose my mouth,
All my teeth, north and south,
Yes, if I ever lose my mouth,
Way oh way oh oh oh oh
I won't have to talk ...
Did it take long to find me ?
I asked the faithful light.
Did it take long to find me,
And are you gonna stay tonight ?
Oh, I'm being followed by a moon shadow,
Moon shadow, moon shadow.
Leaping and hopping on a moon shadow,
Moon shadow, moon shadow.
MORRIS MAN’S LAMENT
As I walked by the brewery one morning so fair
To view the still vats and to sniff the malt air
I spied an old morris man singing this song
Oh bury me here ‘cause me gallup has gone
Wrap me up in me bells and me baldricks
No more in the pubs I’ll be seen
Just tell me old side mates I’ve taken a slide mates
And I’ll see you someday when your bells have turned green
Now “Bells have turned green” is a pub I’ve heard tell
Where morris men go when they don’t go to hell
Where the beer is so pretty and the girls are all free
They take you to heaven and don’t ask a fee
Wrap me up in me bells and me baldricks
No more in the pubs I’ll be seen
Just tell me old side mates I’ve taken a slide mates
And I’ll see you someday when your bells have turned green
Where it always rains when you dance “Shepherd’s hey”
And you don’t need a squire to show you the way
And the bagman is there buying drinks by the score
And everyone say’s good let’s have twenty more
Wrap me up in me bells and me baldricks
No more in the pubs I’ll be seen
Just tell me old side mates I’ve taken a slide mates
And I’ll see you someday when your bells have turned green
My time has been good boys I’ve had a fair part
And from your kind company I sadly do part
These words slowly dropped from his lips and his jaw
As he sank down contented in booze on the floor
Wrap me up in me bells and me baldricks
No more in the pubs I’ll be seen
Just tell me old side mates I’ve taken a slide mates
And I’ll see you someday when your bells have turned green
A MOTHER’S LAMENT
A muvver was washing ‘er baby one night
The youngest of ten and a delicate mite
The muvver was poor and the baby was thin
It was nought but an skelington covered with skin
The muvver turned round , picked the soap off the rack
She was only a moment but when she looked back
‘Er baby had gorn and in anguish she cried
“Oh where has my baby gorn ?” the angels replied ...
Oh your baby has gorn down the plug ‘ole
Your baby ‘as gorn down the plug
The poor little thing was so skinny and thin
It should ‘ave been washed in a jug (in a jug)
Oh your baby is perfectly ‘appy
It won’t need a barf no more
It’s a muckin’ abaht wiv the angels above
Not lorst but gone before
MOVING ON
I'm gonna leave this place tomorrow
I'm gonna leave this town behind
I'll be gone before the morning
I'll be outta sight and outta mind
That's why I'm moving on I'm moving on
I've been hanging round too long
It's time I was moving on
Well I'm tired of the same old faces
And I'm sick of the same old things
I'm getting bored with the same old places
Everybody starts to look the same
That's why I'm moving on I'm moving on
I've been hanging round too long
It's time I was moving on
I was trying to settle down here
But my feet just a won't stay still
And I felt that the grass is greener
On the other side of the hill
That's why I'm moving on I'm moving on
I've been hanging round too long
It's time I was moving on
I'm gonna leave this town tomorrow
I'm gonna leave this place behind
You can bet your bottom dollar
All my troubles will be far behind
That's why I'm moving on I'm moving on
I've been hanging round too long
It's time I was moving on
I've been hanging round too long
It's time I was moving on
I've been hanging round too long
It's time I was moving on
MR. TAMBOURINE MAN
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me in the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.
Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand,
Vanished from my hand, left me blindly here to stand,
But still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet.
I have no one to meet, and the ancient, empty street's
Too dead for dreaming.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me in the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.
Take me for a trip upon your magic whirling ship.
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to step,
Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Onto my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way.
I promise to go under it.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me in the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.
Though you might hear laughing spinning swinging madly across the sun,
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escaping on the run,
But for the sky, there are no fences facing.
And if you hear vague traces of skipping reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind.
I wouldn't play it any mind,
It's just a shadow you're seeing that he's chasing.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me in the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.
Then take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind.
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free.
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate, driven deep beneath the waves.
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to.
Hey Mr. Tambourine man play a song for me in the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you.
MRS FANSHAW
When Mrs. Fanshaw fantasised, things often got romanticised,
There was for those who liked a rock cake, no bolder cook, by grave mistake,
She put cement dust in the spice, and Fanshaw said “It's very nice”,
And ground his teeth and coughed and sighed, and very soon thereafter , died.
Now though England's a pagan land, some citizens still make a stand,
While Fanshaw's faith was lapsed RC, his wife was Christmas C of E,
Yet down the years she had forgot ,what an arse he was,
And what funerary pomps were meet, and which were poison for her sweet.
A representative of Rome was summoned quickly to the home,
To explain the Catholic rites, and wrongs, and ways, and mays, and mights,
Father Ignatius (29), not only godly, but divine,
Within minutes of the time he met her she found love at first sight in a buretta.
Unchecked by ultra monstrance guilt, her love ran wild and at full tilt,
From that day forth she planned, full spate, to swallow up this celibate
The very night her spouse chose to knock off in, she danced with glee upon his coffin,
And by his box was not a dirge she sang, but praises for the clergy.
With an ardour mostly found in latins, Mrs F. turned up at Mass, and matins,
And from the second row of pews, tried to communicate her views.
Rattling her rosary in her best clothes and hosiery,
With sad unconsummated sighs, Mrs.F. unfrocked him with her eyes.
Her fantasies began to grow, that she could die she loved him so,
What a man so strong and chaste, what a chest, oh what a waste,
If he could only leave his pedestal and clasp her close, or even better still,
Inflamed with lust and satyriasis, chase her naked round the diocese.
But Mrs. Fanshaw’s guile and gaiety, ‘though it might have laid the laity,
Sometimes coy, sometimes salacious, never did ignite Ignatius.
Her passions always animated, blew up one Sunday when he stated,
“Today I have this news to dish up, I'm leaving to become a bishop”
Mrs. Fanshaw blenched, Mrs. Fanshaw paled, Mrs. Fanshaw cried, Mrs. Fanshaw wailed,
My love won’t die, my love won’t cease, how can you leave the diocese?
She didn’t even get a kick from thinking of his bishopric,
A fallacy she said, that’s it, and threw a most unpleasant fit.
They saw her raise her head and shake it, no truth had ever seemed so naked
Since Adam's first defoliation, no Budda, or other holy Asian
Could calm the rage that boiled up in her breast now she was foiled,
And voicing vulgar unromanticals, she kicked him soundly in the canticles.
The congregation rose in wrath, to avenge this insult to the cloth,
Not lacking for a precedent, to burn her at the stake they went.
Hymn books and Psalters soon caught fire, they threw her screaming on the pyre,
And she remained though quickly slaked, for ever afterwards half baked.
MRS. ROBINSON
And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know,
Wow wow wow
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself
Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home
And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know,
Wow wow wow
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
It's a little secret, just the Robinsons' affair
Most of all you've got to hide from the kids
Coo, coo, coo-ca-choo, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know,
Wow wow wow
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidates' debate
Laugh about it, shout about it when you've got to choose
Every way you look at it, you lose
Where have you gone, Joe Di Maggio
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you,
Woo woo woo
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson
"Jolting Joe" has left and gone away
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
MY LIFE
Got a call from an old friend we used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American way
Closed his shop sold his house bought a ticket to the west coast
Now he gives them a stand up routine in L A
I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm all right
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone
I never said you had to offer me a second chance
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
Don't get me wrong I still belong
You can speak your mind but not on my time
They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place
Then they tell you you can't sleep with somebody else
Ah but sooner or later you sleep in your own space
Either way it's OK you wake up with yourself
I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm all right
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone
I never said you had to offer me a second chance
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
Don't get me wrong I still belong
You can speak your mind but not on my time
I don't care anymore what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone

MY TOWN
When I awake I think of you
Only my heartbreak makes me feel like a fool
You led me on just to bring me down and I felt so low
So if the stars are out tonight I’ll get up and go
On my way I walked through town
Stopped at your house but you weren't around
The lights were on to ward off thieves but you stayed out all night
It's you who stole my heart when you hadn't any right
It's my town but I've got to leave it
And head south to where the climate is kind
And if the time comes when I'm feeling better
I'll be back with the birds in the spring
Paid my fare and took the train
I'd soon forget but now I feel the pain
Though I tried to think of better days lying in my berth
I pondered revenge for what it was worth
It's my town but I've got to leave it
And head south to where the climate is kind
And if the time comes when I'm feeling better
I'll be back with the birds in the spring
I NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD
I need someone’s hand to lead me through the night
I need someone’s arms to hold squeeze and squeeze me tight
Now when the night begins I’ve had enough
BecauseI need your love so bad
I need some lips to feel next to mine
I need someone to stand up and tell me when I’m lying
But when the lights are low and it’s time to go
That’s when I need your love so bad
So why don’t you give it up and bring it home to me
Or write it on a piece of paper baby so it can be read to me
Tell me that you love me and stop driving me mad
Because I, I need your love so bad
I need your soft voice to talk to me at night
I don’t want you to worry baby I know we can make everything all right
Listen to my plea baby bring it to me
Because I need your love so bad
NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN
She broke down and left me again
Made me see where I'd been
Been down one time been down two times
Never going back again
You don't know what it means to win
Come down and see me again
Been down one time been down two times
Never going back again
NEW KID IN TOWN
There’s talk on the street, it sounds so familiar
Great expectations, everybody’s watchin’ you
People you meet they all seem to know you
Even your old friends treat you like you’re something new
Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Everybody loves you, so don’t let them down
You look in her eyes, they music begins to play
Hopeless romantics here we go again
But after a while you’re looking the other way
It’s those restless hearts that never mend
Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Will she still love you, when you’re not around
There’s so many things you should have told her
But night after night you’re willing to hold her,
Just hold her tears on your shoulder
There’s talk on the street, it’s there to remind you
Doesn’t really matter which side you’re on
You’re walking away and they’re talking behind you
They will never forget you ‘till somebody new comes along
Where’ve you been lately, there’s a new kid in town
Everybody loves him don’t they?
And he’s holding her and you’re still around oh my my
There’s a new kid in town
Just another new kid in town
Everybody’s talking ‘bout the new kid in town, oo hoo
Everybody walking like the new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town, I don’t want to hear it
There’s a new kid in town, I don’t want to hear it
There’s a new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town everybody’s talking
There’s a new kid in town everybody’s walking
There’s a new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town
THE NIGHT THEY DROVE OLD DIXIE DOWN
Virgil Caine is my name
And I served on the Danville train
‘Till Stoneman’s cavalry came
And tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65
We were hungry, just barely alive
By May the tenth Richmond had fell
It’s a time I remember oh so well
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singing
They went na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Back with my wife in Tennessee
When one day she said to me
Virgil quick come see
There goes the Robert E. Lee
Now, I don't mind them chopping wood
And I don't care if their money's no good
Just take what you need and leave the rest
But they should never have taken the very best
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singing
They went na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Like my father before me
I'm a working man
And like my brother before me
I took the rebel stand
Well, he was just eighteen, proud and brave
But a Yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the mud below my feet
You can't raise a Caine back up when he’s in defeat
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singing
They went na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN
Nights in white satin never reaching the end
Letters I've written never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you, yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Gazing at people, some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through, they can't understand
Some try to tell me thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be, you'll be in the end
And I love you, yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Nights in white satin never reaching the end
Letters I've written never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you, yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
NO MATTER WHAT
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn’t matter what you do girl
Ooh girl with you
No matter what you do
I will always be around
Won’t you tell me what you’ve found girl
Ooh girl won’t you
Knock down the old grey wall
Be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all
I would give it to you
Nothing would be,
Nothing would be,
Nothing would be
No matter where you go
There will always be a place
Can’t you see it in my face girl
Ooh girl won’t you
Ooh girl won’t you
NO MILK TODAY
No milk today, my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorne, a symbol of the dawn
No milk today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by, don't know the reason why
How could they know just what that message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door, where my love reigned as queen
No milk today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turned night into day
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in the main street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up two down
No milk today, my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorne, a symbol of the dawn
No milk today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by, don't know the reason why
As music played the faster we did dance
We felt both in at once the start of our romance
How could they know just what that message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door, where my love reigned as queen
No milk today, my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorne, a symbol of the dawn
No milk today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by, don't know the reason why
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in the main street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up two down
NO MORE LONELY NIGHTS
I can wait another day until I call you
You’ve only got my heart on a string
And everything a flutter
But another lonely night might take forever
We’ve only got each other to blame
It’s all the same to love
‘Cause I know what I feel to be right
No more lonely nights
No more lonely nights
You’re my guiding light
Day or night I’m always there
No more lonely nights (never be another)
No more lonely nights
You’re my guiding light
Day or night I’m always there
And I won’t go away until you tell me so
No, I’ll never go away
Yes, I know what I feel to be right
No more lonely nights (never be another)
No more lonely nights
You’re my guiding light
Day or night I’m always there
And I won’t go away until you tell me so
No, I’ll never go away
No more lonely nights, no no
NO WOMAN, NO CRY
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
Say, I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
Observing the hypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have, good friends we've lost
Along the way
In this bright future you can forget your past
So dry your tears I say, and
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
Eh, little darling, don't shed no tears no woman, no cry
Say, I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was love would burning through the night
Then we would cook corn-meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you
My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
But while I'm gone
Everything's gonna be all right
Everything's gonna be all right
Everything's gonna be all right
Everything's gonna be all right
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
Say, I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was love would burning through the night
Then we would cook corn-meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you
My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry no woman, no cry
NOTHING
It’s been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away
Since you’ve been gone I can do whatever I want
I can see whomever I choose
I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant
But nothing, I said nothing can take away these blues
‘Cause nothing compares, nothing compares to you
It’s been so lonely without you here
Like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling
Tell me baby where did I go wrong
I could put my arms around every girl I see
But they’d only remind me of you
I went to the doctor, guess what she told me, guess what she told me
She said boy you’d better try to have fun no matter what you do
But she’s a fool
‘Cause nothing compare, nothing compare to you
All the flowers that you planted for me in the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I’m willing to give it another try
‘Cause nothing compares, nothing compares to you
‘Cause nothing compares, nothing compares to you
‘Cause nothing compares, nothing compares to you
NOW THAT THE MAGIC HAS GONE
In my life I’ve seen sorrow, heartache and pain
I’ve burned in the sunshine, been drowned in the pouring rain
Had too many lovers and not too much love
I’ve been tried and convicted of things I’m not guilty of
I was locked in a prison, ‘till you came and set me free
So how can you say you’re no good for me
Now that the magic has gone
You just wanna walk away, nothing left to say
Anyway, now that the magic has gone
There’s no sense in holding on, baby now
Now that the magic has gone
You know love can be tender, love can be cruel
It can smile like an angel while it treats you just like a fool
It captures and haunts you until you give in
And it stacks the dice against you in a game you never can win
Just when I was thinking lady luck was you and me
You tell me it’s over, it’s time for breaking free
Now that the magic has gone
You just wanna walk away, nothing left to say
Anyway, now that the magic has gone
There’s no sense in holding on, baby now
Now that the magic has gone
I won’t try to hold you down
I might as well let go
But my heart keeps asking how to
There’s no prize for the loser, only the winner takes the purse
Some say love’s a blessing, but for me it’s just a curse
Now that the magic has gone
You just wanna walk away, nothing left to say
Anyway, now that the magic has gone
There’s no sense in holding on, baby now
Now that the magic has gone
NUTTING GIRL
Come all you jovial fellows and listen to my song
It is a little ditty and it won’t contain you long
It’s of a fair young maiden was living down in Kent
Arose one Summer’s morning and she a nutting went
To me right fol rol to me rol tol tol
Sing wack for the doo ral day
And what few nuts this poor girl had
She threw them all away
It’s of this brisk young ploughboy was ploughing of his land
He called unto his horses and bid them gently stand
As he sat down upon his plough all for a song to sing
His voice was so melodious it made the valleys ring
To me right fol rol to me rol tol tol
Sing wack for the doo ral day
And what few nuts this poor girl had
She threw them all away
It’s of this fair young damsel was nutting in the woods
His voice was so melodious it charmed her where she stood
She could no longer stay
And what few nuts she had poor girl she threw them all away
To me right fol rol to me rol tol tol
Sing wack for the doo ral day
And what few nuts this poor girl had
She threw them all away
She came up to young Johnny as he sat on his plough
She said young man I really feel I cannot tell you how
So he took her to some shady broom and there he laid her down
She said young man I really feel the world go round and round (/up and down)
To me right fol rol to me rol tol tol
Sing wack for the doo ral day
And what few nuts this poor girl had
She threw them all away
So come all you local maidens this warning by me take
If you should a nutting go don’t stay out too late
For if you should stay too late to hear the ploughboy sing
You might have a young farmer to nurse up in the Spring
To me right fol rol to me rol tol tol
Sing wack for the doo ral day
And what few nuts this poor girl had
She threw them all away
OB-LA-DI, OB-LA-DA
Desmond has a barrow in the market place
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly, "Girl, I like your face."
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Desmond takes a trolley to the jeweller's store
Buys a twenty carat golden ring
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door
And as he gives it to her she begins to sing
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
In a couple of years they have build a home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones
Happy ever after in the market place
Desmond lets the children lend a hand
Molly stays at home and does her pretty face
And in the evening she still sings it with the band
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
In a couple of years they have build a home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on, woh lala, how the life goes on
And if you want some fun
Sing ob-la-di-bla-da
OH BOY
All my love, all my kissing
You don't know what you've been missing
Oh boy, when you're with me, oh boy
The world would see that you were meant for me-e-e-e
All my life, I've been a-waiting
Tonight there'll be no hesitating
Oh boy, when you're with me, oh boy
The world would see that you were meant for me-e-e-e
Stars appear and shadows are a-falling
I can hear my heart a-calling
If you're not the lover making everything right
I'm gonna be your baby tonight
All my life, I've been a-waiting
Tonight there'll be no hesitating
Stars appear and shadows are a-falling
I can hear my heart a-calling
A little bit of loving makes everything all right
I'm gonna be your baby tonight
All my love, all my kissing
You don't know what you've been missing
Oh boy, when you're with me, oh boy
The world would see that you were meant for me-e-e-e
All my life, I've been a-waiting
Tonight there'll be no hesitating
Oh boy, when you're with me, oh boy
The world would see that you were meant for me-e-e-e
THE OLD DUN COW
Some pals and me in a public house, were playing dominoes one night
When all of a sudden in the pot man rushed, with his face all chalky white
What’s up said Brown, have you seen your Aunt, have you seen your Aunt Maria
My Aunt Marie be blowed said he, the bleeding pub’s on fire
And there was Brown upside down, mopping up the whisky on the floor
Booze booze the firemen cried, as they came knocking at the door
Don’t let them in ‘till it’s all mopped up, someone shouted McIntyre
And we all got blue blind paralytic drunk, when the Old Dun Cow caught fire
Oh fine said Brown what a bit of luck, come along with me he said
Down in the cellar if the fire’s not there, we’ll have a rare old spree
So we all went down with good old Brown, and the beer could not be missed
We hadn’t been there ten minutes or more, before we were quite pissed
And there was Brown upside down, mopping up the whisky on the floor
Booze booze the firemen cried, as they came knocking at the door
Don’t let them in ‘till it’s all mopped up, someone shouted McIntyre
And we all got blue blind paralytic drunk, when the Old Dun Cow caught fire
Old Johnson rushed to the port wine tub, and gave it a few hard knocks
Then he took off his pantaloons, likewise his shoes and socks
Hold on said Snooks if you want to wash your feet, there’s a drop of old ale right there
Don’t put your trotters in the port wine tub, when we’ve got some old stale beer
Just then there was a terrible crash, and half the bloody roof gave way
We got soaked with the firemen’s hose, but still we were quite gay
Well we got some sacks and some old tin tacks, and bunged ourselves inside
And we kept on drinking good old scotch ‘till we were bleary eyed
And there was Brown upside down, mopping up the whisky on the floor
Booze booze the firemen cried, as they came knocking at the door
Don’t let them in ‘till it’s all mopped up, someone shouted McIntyre
And we all got blue blind paralytic drunk, when the Old Dun Cow caught fire
THE OLDEST SWINGER
When you tap up a bird in the folk club bar
Drive her home in your comfy car
Find you went to school with her ma and pa
You’re the oldest swinger in town
When you avoid a mirror by the light of the day
Think it looks distinguished when your hair turns grey
Zip up your Wranglers and your belly’s in the way
You’re the oldest swinger in town
There he goes with his wire wheels
Easy Rider specs and his nine inch heels
He never shows how old he feels
Cause he’s the oldest swinger in town
When you blow-wave your hair twice a week
The girls don’t understand a word you speak
You walk in the disco and they offer you their seat
You’re the oldest swinger in town
When you prefer beer to Bacardi and coke
Suffer next morning from the fags you smoke
When you’d have another dance but you’re scared of a stroke
You’re the oldest swinger in town
There he goes with his wire wheels
Easy Rider specs and his nine inch heels
He never shows how old he feels
Cause he’s the oldest swinger in town
When sex becomes a monthly chore
When you wonder how you every managed on the floor
When sometimes you even forget what it’s for
You’re the oldest swinger in town
And when you’re down to the last of your slim-jim ties
When the president of the Bill Haley Fan Club dies
When you’ve got suitcases instead of bags under your eyes
You’re the oldest swinger in town
ON THE BORDER
The fishing boats go out across the evening water
Smuggling guns and arms across the Spanish border
The winds wipe up the waves so loud
The ghost moon sails amongst the clouds
And turns the rifles into silver on the border
On my wall the colours of the maps are running
From Africa the winds they talk of changes coming
The torches flare up in the night
The hand that sets the farms alight
Has spread the word to those who’re waiting on the border
In the village where I grew up nothing seems the same
Still you never see the change from day to day
No one sees the customs slip away
Late at night the rain was knocking on my window
I moved across the darkened room and in the lamp glow
I thought I saw down in the street
The spirit of the century
Telling us that we’re standing on the border
On the island where I grew up nothing seems the same
It’s just the patterns that remain an empty shell
But there’s a strangeness in the air
You feel it too well
The fishing boats go out across the evening water
Smuggling guns and arms across the Spanish border
The winds wipe up the waves so loud
The ghost moon sails amongst the clouds
And turns the rifles into silver on the border
On the border on the border on the border
ONE MORE CHANCE
Calling all olive branches and laid off doves
There's work to do before we say goodbye
And the tears which welled beneath his sombre shroud
And hurt with the pain of somebody who knows
He can never be like the sort of a rose
Whose beauty remains even though the bloom goes
Oh one more chance
Naked tree of winter seems to stand so proud
Lord you know more mortal than we know
And who can see him turning to the face of love
And hear him pleading with her don’t let it die
And I see her leaning on my shoulder to cry
Oh one more chance
And is it too late to change the way we're bound to go
Is it too late for surely one of us must know
ONE MORE NIGHT
I've been trying oh so long to let you know
Let you know know how I feel
So if I stumble and if I fall just hold me back
So I can beat you see
Please just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Oh one more night cause I can't wait forever
Please just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Oh one more night cause I can't wait forever
I've been sitting here so long just wasting time
Just staring at the phone
And I was wondering should I call you then I thought
Well maybe you're not alone
Please just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Oh one more night cause I can't wait forever
Please just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Oh one more night cause I can't wait forever
Just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Oh one more night cause I can't wait for ever
Please just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Oh one more night cause I can't wait forever
Like a river to the sea I will always be with you
And if you sail away I will follow you
To give me one more night
Just give me that one more night
One more night cause I can't wait forever
I don't think there'll ever be a time you'll ever feel the same
And I know it's only words
But if you change your mind you know that I'll be here
And maybe we both can love
I'll give you just one more night
Give me that one more night
Just one more night cause I can't wait for ever
Just give me one more night
Give me that one more night
Just one more night cause I can't wait forever
ONE OF THESE NIGHTS
One of these nights one of these crazy old nights
We’re gonna find out pretty mama what turns on your lights
The full moon is calling the fever is high
And the wicked wind whispers and moans
You’ve got your demons you’ve got desires
Well I’ve got a few of my own
Ooh someone to be kind to
In between the dark and the light
Ooh coming right behind you
Swear I’m gonna find you one of these nights
One of these dreams one of these lost and lonely dreams now
We’re gonna find one girl one that really screams
I’ve been searching for the daughter of the devil himself
I’ve been searching for an angel in white
I’ve been waiting for a woman who’s a little of both
And I can feel her but she’s nowhere in sight
Ooh loneliness will blind you
In between the wrong and the right
Ooh coming right behind you
Swear I’m gonna find you one of these nights
One of these nights
In between the dark and the light
Coming right behind you
Swear I’m gonna find you
Get you baby one of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
One of these nights
ONLY LOVE
Some say a heart is just like a wheel
When you bend it you can’t mend it
And my love for you is like a sinking ship
And my heart is on that ship out in mid-ocean
They say that death is a tragedy
It comes once and then it’s over
But my only wish is for that deep dark abyss
‘Cause what’s the use of living with no true lover
When harm is done no love can be won
I know it happens frequently
What I can’t understand and please God hold my hand
Is why it should happen to me
And it’s only love and it’s only love
That can wreck a human being and turn him inside out
That can wreck a human being and turn him inside out
ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG
Come out Virginia don’t let me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one
Well they showed you a statue and told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
But they never told you the price that you’d pay
For things that you might have done
For only the good die young that’s what I said
Only the good die young, only the good die young
You might have heard that I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain’t too pretty, we ain’t too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
But that never hurt no one
So come on Virginia show me a sign
Send up a signal, I’ll throw you the line
The stained glass curtain you’re hiding behind
Never lets in the sun
Only the good die young I tell you
Only the good die young I tell you
You got a nice white dress and a party at your confirmation
You got a brand new soul and a cross of gold
But Virginia they didn’t give you quite enough information
You didn’t count on me when you were counting on your rosary
And they say there’s a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it’s better but I say it ain’t
I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
The sinners are much more fun
You know that only the good die young, I tell yer
You know that only the good die young, I tell yer
You said your mother told you all that I could give you
Was a reputation
Oh she never cared for me
But does she ever say a prayer for me
Ooh woh woh
Come out, come out, come out Virginia don’t let me wait
You Catholic girls start too late
But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one
You know that only the good die young tell you baby
You know that only the good die young only the good die young
Only the good die young, only the good die young
OUT BEHIND THE BARN
You say the world’s in trouble
You say you don’t feel clean
You don’t have an answer but baby don’t ask me
I don’t give a darn in hell, out behind the barn
Oh out behind the barn, I’m chewing on a piece of hay
I’m up to my knees in cow shit, I’m shovelling my blues away
You say I was your leader, you say I turned you on
You’re starting to suspect now, it was all a con
I don’t give a darn in hell, out behind the barn
Oh out behind the barn, I’m chewing on a piece of hay
I’m up my knees in cow shit, I’m shovelling my blues away
You say I owe you something, you ask me for my plan
Just who were you expecting, Jesus Zimmerman
I don’t give a darn in hell, out behind the barn
Oh out behind the barn, I’m chewing on a piece of hay
I’m up to my knees in cow shit, I’m shovelling my blues away
OUT MY BACK DOOR
Just got home from Illinois locked the back door oh boy
Got to set down take a rest on the porch
Imagination set's in fairly soon I'm singing
Toot toot toot looking out my back door
There's a giant doing cartwheels statue wearing high heels
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn
Dinosaur with troll there listening to Buck Owens
Toot toot toot looking out my back door
Tamarinds and elephants are playing in the band
Won't you take a ride on the flying spoon dood ju ju
A wondrous apparition provided by magician
Toot toot toot looking out my back door
Tamarinds and elephants are playing in the band
Won't you take a ride on the flying spoon dood ju ju
Bother me tomorrow today I found no sorrows
Toot toot toot looking out my back door
All our troubles Illinois locked the front door oh boy
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn
Bother me tomorrow today I found no sorrows
Toot toot toot looking out my back door
OVER AND OVER
Over and over and over
I gotta baby baby baby till my tongue spirals out of my head
When there’s no one looking over my shoulder
I like to write rock and roll but it doesn’t always hang together
So what do I know or any one know about love
You ask me how I feel I said my heart is not for real
Why don’t you listen to it sometimes
I’ve wandered round the moors on many misguided tours
Poor Emily and Charlotte pour their hearts out
What did they know what could they know about love
What do they know or any one know about love
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby till my tongue spirals out of my head
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby what made you think I need it maybe
I’m going up here, rolling up over
I have to write rock and roll just to keep body and soul together
For what do I know or anyone know about love
You ask me how I feel I said my heart is not for real
Why don’t you listen to it sometimes
I’ve wandered round the moors on many misguided tours
Poor Emily and Charlotte pour their hearts out
What did they know what could they know about love
What do they know or any one know about love
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby till my tongue spirals out of my head
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby what made you think I need it maybe
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby till my tongue spirals out of my head
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby what made you think I need it maybe
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby till my tongue spirals out of my head
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby what made you think I need it maybe
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby till my tongue spirals out of my head
Over and over and over
Baby baby baby what made you think I need it maybe
OVER THE MOUNTAIN
Well it happened to be on a cold Winter’s night
That I first took a notion to marry
I lifted my rod and my hat in my hand
And I seemed for to be in a hurry
I jaunted along to her cabin I came
My heart it rejoiced when I viewed this fair dame
I lifted the latch and I bid her good day
Saying I’m going over the mountain
Now what foolish notions come into your head
But I’m glad for to see you so merry
It’s twelve of the clock and the old folks’ in bed
Speak low or me mummy will hear me
Well if this be jesting then jesting is true
I’ve courted a year and I think that will do
This night I’ve a notion to marry with you
If you’ll venture with me o’er the mountain
Oh no my fond charmer I’ll stay as I am
For I think it be fitter and better
I lifted my rod and my hat in my hand
Saying I’ll soon put an end to this chatter
Stop stop my bold laddie while I get my shoes
My heart it rejoiced when I heard the glad news
She ran to the door saying I’ll hope you’ll excuse
But I’d love to go over the mountain
So now you’re in earnest she said with a smile
Let providence be my director
I’ve love in my bosom I ne’er will deny
Though the sentence it seemed to affect her
I’m using no magic no potions or spells
I’ve a true honest heart and I love you right well
And if you’ll agree and my parents don’t tell
We’ll go pick our way o’er the mountain
Well the moon and the stars ‘luminated the sky
And the morning star brightly shining
When me and my darling set out our long journey
Till we came to the Alter of Hymen
‘Tween fiddling and dancing we spent the whole day
The fear of marriage it soon fades away
And often I turn to my darling and say
Do you rue going over the mountain
Oh no my fond charmer now why should I rue
When I took the advice of my laddie
And now that I’m over the mountain with you
I’ll regard not the scorn of my daddy
Let this be a lesson to all pretty maids
Slip out with your lad when the old folks’ in bed
And don’t be afraid your fair charmer to wed
Don’t you rue going over the mountain
PARADISE
La la la la, la la la la
La la la la, la la la
La la la la la, la la la la la
If Paradise is half as nice
As Heaven that you take me to
Who needs Paradise
I’d rather have you
They say Paradise is up in the stars
But I needn’t sigh because it’s so far
‘Cause I know it’s worth a Heaven on Earth
For me where you are
The look from your eyes the touch from your hand
And I seem to fly to some other land
When you are around my heart always pounds
Just like a brass band
If Paradise is half as nice
As Heaven that you take me to
Who needs Paradise
I’d rather have you
La la la la, la la la la
La la la la, la la la
La la la la la, la la la la la
If Paradise is half as nice
As Heaven that you take me to
Who needs Paradise
I’d rather have you
Oh yes I’d rather have you
La la la la, la la la la
La la la la, la la la
La la la la la, la la la la la
They say Paradise is up in the stars
But I needn’t sigh because it’s so far
‘Cause I know it’s worth a Heaven on Earth
For me where you are
The look from your eyes the touch from your hand
And I seem to fly to some other land
When you are around my heart always pounds
Just like a brass band
