AFCEA Board Meeting 9 November 2017
AGENDA

Treasurer’s Report – Johnnie Young/Carolyn Russell:

Upcoming Speaker Plan:




  1. November – Potential for another CEU class; this was not possible due to conflicts; we will be shifting to a new speaker for this month. The speaker will be Jeff Gaynor, President – American Resilience LLC. Works in the area of CyberSecurity and with Homeland Security and is a retired Army Col. Dan went through his bio and should be an excellent speaker. Kathy has posted this to the website as well. Please send the invite to your network to publicize next week’s luncheon.




  1. December – No luncheon and will do USO Support in replacement of a luncheon; Budgeted for $1150 donation. Get John and Terry engaged to help with coordination. Please see notes below in Projects for more details.




  1. January – teacher luncheon. January 25th luncheon date. Letters have gone out to schools. Looking to see if we could get Ceismic or GTRI for a short presentation at this luncheon. Dave has reached out to Ceismic to see if they would be interested in participating

  2. Targeting February as another CEU Luncheon; Pat will visit with Jimmy next week to go over possible topics for the next CEU class.

  3. March – small business day in conjunction with Air Show at Dobbins (March 24/25 is air show). AFCEA table at Airshow with STEM tent. Major Walthour will check into the possibility of this one. Will check back with the AFRC Col Shane Matherne to see if he could Dave to check with Don Davis to get a drone loan for tent at airshow. Andrea will email out schedule for people to sign up. Will need to determine the location at Dobbins.

  4. Will target a CEU for once per quarter

  5. Jimmy volunteered to look into golf tournament in April; Looking at potential of Marietta City Club or one of the Executive courses on Windy Hill; will explore further and Young AFCEANs could help volunteer


Membership - Tom Galligan:

As of the end of October 2017 membership is at 275, -1 from last month and +16 from this time last year.

Young AFCEAnsIvy Strohm

  1. Coin was presented to Johnnie Young to give to CIO, Brian Bowling

  2. Ivy to look at April timeframe for another Young AFCEAN event. May be able to assist with possible Golf Tournament;

  3. Discussed ways to potentially Recruit additional young AFCEANs; Pat will get the Cadet Commander information over to Ivy; The Leadership Labs at ROTC would be a way to publicize AFCEA locally as well. Baron Reinhold is head of Naval ROTC in Atlanta and we can work with him to publicize as well.

  4. Ivy has spoken with Ashley Neavin as a potential AVP for Young AFCEAN. Pat is also going to send Young AFCEAN contacts for both Middle GA and Augusta.


Enlisted Affairs – Open

a. We still have an opening in this area. Major Walthour will be following up with a potential Enlisted Affairs officer and will report back next month. Jimmy is also speaking with someone about the opportunity.


Publicity – Dan Swacina:


  1. No report


Projects – John Souders/Terry Whitlock:

  1. Operation Holiday Block Leave; Discussion of 2017 plans; Thursday, December 21st – 1200 troops coming through from Ft. Gordon. Terry has reached out to Chuck with AUSA to see if they would like to co-host the day; need to get 24 hours of coverage for that day. Kathy will get with NDIA, Tom will communicate with GTRI and Pat will speak with DAR if we need to have additional sponsors; Jimmy’s daughter is a part of Girl Scout Troops which they would like to sponsor these for the goodie bags. Jimmy is looking to schedule space at Dobbins for December 16th to stuff bags.

Educational Programs – Michelle Brown/Tom Horton:

  1. Mitch asked about Teaching Tools status – budgeting for $3000 with 6 awards. This is the time that applications are typically sent out. Tom will reach out to Michelle to get an update.


Scholarships – Julie Goetz/Mitch Abel

  1. Applications went out on Sept 11th; Application Deadline was extended to November 15th due to lack of response; No applications have been received at this point in time. Tom will reach back out to the ROTC contact for Atlanta and Kathy to reach back out of N GA to see if they could push applicants


Awards – Indra Dattagupta:

Small Business – Z. D. Wooten/Kathy Swacina:

  1. No report


Web Master – Brian Edholm/ David Landry/Chris Landry:

  1. Kathy will need assistance on Website maintenance moving forward; looking for volunteers

  2. Ivy made new Facebook page; Dan is sending her new photos to use on the page. Atlanta AFCEA Chapter is the name of the page. It is under construction but up and going

OLD Business:

1.. University North GA Student Chapter: reach out to Keith Antonia again to see if he could come down to meet with the team


NEW Business:

  1. Pat Harrington suggested a Fundraising idea; Wreaths Across America. The Wreaths cost $15 and the chapter would get $5 for fundraising; We would identify which Cemetary that we would sponsor. Something that we could look at for 2018. Pat will send the links to Kathy.

  2. Pat reported Young AFCEAN of the year nominee from Middle GA. Would like to also make sure that we have Womens Leadership award in the future.
