The construction of Oksaroy began in 1380 and was completed in 1386. But the decoration work lasted until 1404. The palace was built in memory of Amir Temur's mother Takinahotun. Craftsmen from Khorezm, Iran and many other countries took part in the construction of the palace. In particular, it is recorded in the dome inscriptions that the stone cutter Muhammad Yusuf Tabrizi participated in the construction and decoration of the dome arch. The building was supposed to be 73 meters high. A small pool of water was placed on its roof, and the water passing through the pipes formed a waterfall. Golden sand was used to build the foundation of the palace. The foundation of the building is very strong. In 2002, during the celebration of the 2700th anniversary of the city of Shahrisabz, the palace was partially renovated with the cooperation of UNESCO.Only the huge facade of the palace, the towers at both ends, and a part of the foundation of the palace have been preserved. The current appearance of Aksaroy is beautiful. This strength and beauty is achieved by working the front and north wall surfaces flush with glazed rivets to ensure the bricks appear as a whole. The width of Peshtok is 22.5 m, the height is 40 m, the total height is more than 50 m. The spiral pattern inside the Peshtok tower is ascended by stairs.
In the entrance part of the arch of the palace hall, the lion and the sun are depicted, together with three rings, which are the symbols of the Temur state. The interior and exterior walls have Kufic inscriptions, ornate decorations, and Islamic motifs in the girih style.According to written sources, Aksaroy was built as a residential and public building, and the rooms are located around the courtyard. According to Babur, there is a pond in the middle of the courtyard, a large room with a dome in the net, a small room for advisers on the sides of the divan, luxurious arched porches, and inside there is a harem and an amir's room. On the pediment of Devonkhana there was an image of a lion and the sun, and a 3-ring emblem of the state of Timurids. On the inside and sides of the dome, on the towers in the corners, shield-shaped girth patterns are made of tiles. The gloss of colors on the walls of Aksaray, historical, philosophical and religious themes, Kufic and Suls inscriptions, tile decorations, intricate patterns have given the building a wonderful and magical content and form. The building was named Oksaroy because of the way the colors shine and pale in the moonlight. One of the palace's unique features is the rooftop pool. Water flows into the pool from Takhtakoracha pass through lead pipes and is lowered down to form a waterfall.
