Queries whose name begins with jfin. Primary contact is Mary Williams williams@jmu.edu Section last updated 3/13/2012.

  1. Jfin001 (TS): Short term inter program data. Written for Mary Williams in finance. Don't worry about using the student groups, rely on the data in the course requirement which we really want so students cannot register for an abroad class unless they are in the student group. Also, removed the criteria row: B.LOCATION - Location Code equal to ABRD because not everyone was keying that data in and the data about the requirement was more reliable. 2/15/2011: per Brandon Cline and a discussion at a meeting of folks, the line of criteria where the last 21 characters of the requirement description must match the first 21 characters of the ref1_descr field on item_sf resolves the issue when the same student attends more than one short term sessions. Agnes Choi is responsible for sending the proper location descriptions to Brandon Cline so these values will match. Another note to self: if the query returns what appears to be dup rows, or more than one row per location, it can mean the program fees are slightly different which causes this issue. The data is still accurate, just need to perform manual aggregation to sum the rows.

  2. Jfin001b (TS): returns detail data whereas jfin001 returns aggregated data.

  3. Jfin002 (TS): Summer abroad forfeits. created for Mary Williams to return summer abroad students who have had their deposit forfeited per definition from Brandon Cline in UBO

General Education

Queries whose name begins with jgened. Primary contact is Catherine Crummet crummecm@jmu.edu and the cluster coordinators such as Gretchen Hazard. Section last updated 5/1/2018.

  1. jgened001 (TS): Need x hrs to graduate. Includes prompts for both a Fall and Spring term and a number of credit hours the student needs (needed) as of that given term. Is hard coded to return the primary major of those active as of today in the UG career and have NOT applied to graduate. Eliminates second AND dual degree seeking students. Originally designed to be run for the most recent Fall (LE 15 hours of 120 needed) and subsequent Spring (LE 6 hours of 120 needed)

  2. jgened001a (NTS): Need < 12 hrs to graduate. Includes a single term prompt. Is hard coded to return the primary major of those active as of the term END DATE provided.in the UG career and have NOT applied to graduate. Eliminates second AND dual degree seeking students. Originally designed to be run for ANY single Fall/Spring term (Summer terms will never be returned). Is hard coded to only return those who need between 1-11 credits to reach the 120 hour graduation requirement.

  3. jgened001b (NTS): 0 enrollment in Summer courses. Contains a range of terms, defaults to the past 10 years. IS hard coded to only return Summer courses whose enrolment total is zero. Includes courses whose Class Stat is OTHER than active.

  4. jgened001c (NTS): Summer courses low enrollment. Prompts for a range of terms and enrollment total values. Returns the primary instructor for the given course. An optional instructor ID# prompt is also provided. The query is hard coded to the Summer term only for non cancelled courses.

  5. jgened001d (NTS): Low enrollment, >1 sections. Prompts for a single Summer term and a range of enrollment total numbers to use as the definition of “low enrollment”. Returns the primary instructor of those courses for which the instructor is teaching more than 1 section of the course (including cross listed courses) with the given low enrollment.

  6. jgened001e (TS): Unmet requirements by course. Prompts for an academic term (student must be a senior for this term) and an expected graduation term. Suggest using a Fall term for the academic term and the following Spring term for the expected graduation term. Uses degree progress results to return all unmet DP requirements and the courses which meet these requirements via what are known as course lists. Only 2 fields are returned; ttl course need number in descending order and the course. A reminder that a DP requirement COULD be met by any number of courses.

  7. jgened002 (NTS):. GNED course anal by cluster. Would like to know the AVERAGE number of credits taken in GENERAL EDUCATION courses for our NATIVE (not transfer) graduates since fall 2002. If possible, it would be wonderful to get the average for each cluster, for each area within a cluster, and (I know this is asking a lot) each course. (Difficulties arise in course changes, I know.) If you could provide the averages for the whole time period AND for each year so we can see growth/change, we would be most appreciative.

  8. jgened002a (NTS): GNED course anal by area. Similar to jgened002, but aggregated by cluster area vs. cluster.

  9. jgened003 (NTS): Returns the total number of gned attribute credits being transferred by a given student.

  10. jgened003a (NTS): Similar to jgened003, but aggregated by general education cluster area.

  11. jgened003b (NTS): Similar to jgened003, but aggregated by general education course.

  12. jgened004 (NTS): Gened consumption by plan. Cloned from jusds007m for Gretchen Hazard. Interested in seeing which majors were consuming the most gened units.

  13. jgened005 (NTS): Gened course analysis. Prompts for a term range. Returns course based aggregate data for courses with a GNED course attribute. Course attributes in general education are further identified by a “program area” which equates to our cluster and program areas (cluster 1, critical thinking, etc.). Course attributes are setup and maintained by the office of the registrar.

  14. jgened006 (NTS): Invalid package data by term. Has a single prompt for a term. Returns course related data for courses with course attributes in the GNED area. Designed to return course data for GNED courses which have not been properly entered defined as the course is missing a GNED program (aka package) area designation. It is “normal” for this query to return zero rows indicating no such issues exists for the given term.

  15. jgened007 (TS): # years when cluster crses tak. Due to the large volume of data, includes four required prompts. A nine digit requirement number. A 4 digit requirement line number. A course attribute (for general education, enter the letters=GNED). A course attribute value (use the magnifying glass to perform a search). The query returns aggregate data related to the course and the student when the course was taken. Includes all active undergraduate students. The “# of acad years” is defined as the numerical difference between the academic year the course was taken, and the academic year the student was admitted. As a reminder; the registrars defines an academic year as beginning with a Fall term and ending with the next calendar years Summer term. Contact the office of the registrar (or use the magnifying glass) if you need requirement number values. Of special note for these results. Although the query includes logic which validates the student HAS completed the given general education requirement, it does NOT mean the returned course was USED to satisfy that requirement.
