Summary
Chanlibel /Chamlibel is one of the common elements from the steps of Central Asia till the Balkans, which formed in a wide area stretching, in Azerbaijani and Turkish versions of “Koroglu” epic, which we have researched. Different views were put forward till nowadays about the etymology of ‘Chanlibel’.
In the article, it is told the opinions on the etymology and the geographical area of Chanlibel’, where Koroglu had been lived, which reflected by different scholars and it is defined the place of Chanlibel. In the research, it is emphasized specifically, that Chanlibel is not a real geographical area, but it is a symbolic, imaginary name of that place, based on thoughts of Pertev Naili Boratav, while the most of the places in epic were existed. At the same time, it is noted that Chanlibel located on the way of caravans and Koroglu and his bunch were robbed the caravans, which they passed foothills of the mountain.
