Strengths

  • Department has infrastructure in terms of lab and research farm facilities

  • Faculty members of the Department have diverse areas of specialization (Pomology, Olericulture and Floriculture)

  • Majority of the students of M.Sc. and Ph. D. are quite competent/ capable and have qualified the National Test like NET, ARS etc. Hence, it is one of the strongest points of the department.

  • Curriculum of the department is updated at regular intervals as it is updated timely.

  • Faculty members and students attend seminars, symposia, workshops, congress, farmers fair & field visit etc. to exchange the ideas and gain the practical knowledge.

Weaknesses

  • Lab and field facilities need to be upgraded. The area under the research farm needs to be increased to about 25 Acre in view of increasing strength of students for the development of Fruit research farm, Vegetable research farm, Floriculture research farm and Medicinal & Aromatic plants.

  • Lack of fruit germplasm block, Herb gardens and Aquatic gardens etc.

  • Lack of the School for Agricultural Sciences.

Opportunities and Challenges

  • Horticulture is the means for converting our weaknesses into opportunities.

  • The basic objectives of the horticulture development is to provide the protective food for all and creating employment opportunity for proper segment of society.

  • To promote the sciences and practices of horticulture in human life.

  • Thus, task before us is to harness the opportunity by converting weakness into a strength, which will need a paradigm shift in our thoughts and approaches from traditional system to knowledge based and technology driven system having efficiency as a central point involving farmers in planning and exclusion.

  1. Future plan of the department. :

  1. To create of art laborites for conducting analysis studies on fruits, vegetables and flower.

  2. Expanding area of the Horticulture Research Farm to conduct research on fruits and vegetable and flower in separate blocks.

  3. Produce students with a sound knowledge of horticulture with an all round development of their personalities.
