There is no national definition of waste and hazardous waste used for the purpose of transboundary movements of waste in Cuba. There are no categories of wastes to be controlled and no categories of wastes requiring special consideration in addition to those listed in Annexes I and II of Basel Convention.

1) Figure refers to the total amount of hazardous wastes generated under Art. 1 (1)a (Annex I: Y1-Y45). The increase of hazardous waste generated in 2000 in relation to 1999 (819 050 mt) is due to a more precise inventory and rise in the Cuban economy in 2000.

Amendment to the Basel Convention
The amendment to the Basel Convention (Decision III/1) has not been implemented in Cuba.

Restrictions on export for final disposal and for recovery
Cuba has no restrictions on the export of hazardous wastes and other wastes for final disposal and for recovery.

Restrictions on import for final disposal
Cuba restricts the import of hazardous wastes and other wastes for final disposal. The relevant legislation is the Resolution 87/99 from Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. The restriction covers all hazardous wastes and all countries.

Restrictions on import for recovery
Cuba has no restrictions on the import of hazardous wastes and other wastes for recovery.

Restrictions on transit
Cuba restricts the transit of hazardous wastes and other wastes. The relevant legislation is the Resolution 87/99 from Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. The restriction covers all hazardous wastes and all countries. This restriction establishes the need for a license and financial guarantee to cover the movement.
