Brief History: Kodolányi János University College is a state-accredited, non-denominational, non-state institution of higher education offering degree courses in Arts, Economics, Tourism and Social Sciences. It is run by the Independent College Trust set up by the Town Council of the county seat, Székesfehérvár.

The number of students has increased many times. The accreditation process of autumn 1999 ended with success: the college and all the programs were found to fulfill the requirements and were duly accredited. New campuses were added: in 2000 the Budapest Campus and in 2001 the Siófok Campus. Off-campus branches commenced operation in 2002 in Nyíregyháza and in 2003 in Orosháza.

Library: The task of the Kodolányi János University College Library is helping the instruction and research work of the University College. Its collection allows it to provide the foreign language and special library requirements of the city and the region. It contains 60,000 books and 10,000 periodicals, audio- and videocassettes as well as CD-ROMs. The traditional librarian functions are mixed with the digital librarian services of the modern information center of the future.

Internet: konyvtar@kodolanyi.alba.hu

Computer facilities: Computer labs for study purposes, e-mail and Internet are available in all Campuses.

Cultural Facilities: From arts through fashion, Hungarian culture is unmistakable, as it combines West-European style with East-European spices. The same combination can be found in music, in dances, in drama or in films. The student artistic groups at Kodolányi János University College are active mainly in the field of folkdance, classical dance, choir, drama, and they are open to the city and the regional public, too.

KJUC offers for its students many additional services with the courses and degree programs, especially in the field of catering, hotel management or other tourism related studies; and in the field of TV, radio, journalism related media & communication studies.

By now it owns a Radio Station called Vörösmarty Radio, has a bigger TV studio in Budapest and a smaller in Székesfehérvár, runs a printed student periodical and an on-line magazine.

Sport activities: At the University College physical education is part of the instruction in the first year. In the upper grades there are possibilities for doing sports in the sports circle individually or in groups. College sports field and weight room is at the students' disposal during 24 hours of the day. KJUC has tennis courts and sports halls, and ensures swimming pool facilities, too.

Brief  Information :

The predecessor of the Academy, the Hungarian State Ballet Institute was founded in 1950. The status of academy was given to the institute in 1983 and today it is known as the Hungarian Dance Academy. It trains professional ballet dancers, theatrical dancers, Hungarian folk dancers, ballet-, folkdance- and ballroom dance pedagogues, choreographers as well as dance theorists. Classical ballet is taught according to the Vaganova method.

At the Hungarian Dance Academy there are two main directions of training and different specializations:

I. Performing artist training:

I. 1. Specialization in ballet art: training and education lasts 10 years. Students graduating from this faculty gain a ballet artist degree.

I. 2. Specialization in folkdance and theatrical dance: offers an academy-level diploma as well.

In these two trainings college level starts at age 16, and next to the professional subject students follow secondary school academics, before going on to college level.

Students from abroad can join the Hungarian classes for full or partial training.

II. Teacher’s training and other specializations:

II. 1. Specialization in dance pedagogy: is run in the form of an evening course. Applicants must have either a final examination, a qualification at a secondary school specializing in dance or a certificate of the specialization in ballet art as well as practical professional experience. The Academy has taught and trained dance teachers since 1955. Classical ballet teachers’ training is available in English, following an intensive schedule.

II. 2. Specialization in choreography: specializations in contemporary ballet, folk dance.

II. 3. Specialization for dance theory writers: is a programme for post-graduates. Applicants must have a university or college degree in classical studies or in the field of arts.
