Library: The Central University Library, which was founded in 1774, stocks some 1.5 million volumes and numerous periodicals. This makes it the largest library in the Transdanubian region. In addition, each faculty and colleges has its own library and other document resources.

Computer facilities: The University has many computer labs in many locations. The labs are available to the students for study purposes. E-mail and web access is also provided free of charge.

Cultural and sports opportunities: There is a wide variety of student entertainment facilities both on and off campus. As Pécs is a student city, many bars, clubs and discos provide students with additional opportunities for relaxation and entertainment.

The University has several gyms and fitness rooms. The available sports facilities involve many types of ball games as well as swimming; athletics facilities for all students are provided either free of charge or for a symbolic amount.



Foreign students’ accommodation: Halls of residence are (within limits) available for international students. Private flats, rented apartments are available near the university. Approximate monthly cost for a rented apartment: 100-150 EUR per person.

Health care facilities: Full coverage general health insurance for Hungary is a prerequisite for registration at any faculty of the University. Among others, Generali-Providencia Insurance Company offers a 6/12 months health insurance for students. In line with the insurance of Generali-Providencia, medical care is provided by the doctors of the University (hospital). This insurance is valid only in Hungary and the premium is the Hungarian forint equivalent of about USD 140-145 per semester per person.

Study Abroad and Semester Programmes

The International Studies Centre offers a wide variety of different courses. Our international students can choose from among one-year-long, one-semester-long and two-week-long courses; we can also organise an individual schedule. ISC provides Hungarian language programmes at all levels.



Hungarian language courses in general:

  • five-level teaching system:

Basic Hungarian


This level emphasises basic grammar and speaking – everyday and specific vocabulary, reading and writing skills.

Beginner’s Hungarian


Building on basic grammatical fundamentals, oral/aural skills, grammar and reading; we concentrate on listening, speaking and reading skills.

Intermediate Hungarian I.

The class provides further expansion of relevant vocabulary and oral/aural skills. Readings include texts with literature, history and folklore, as well as a sociological and political orientation. Students are introduced to more complex grammar.



Intermediate Hungarian II.

Emphasis on reading comprehension exercises, including discussions, writing through work with authentic texts.


Advanced Hungarian


Further emphasis is placed on oral/aural skills, grammar and reading comprehension. Students are expected to make oral presentations and join in discussions on relevant topics.

  • general language skills, professional terminology (law, economics, etc.) from the second semester

  • 6 Hungarian language lessons per week

  • small groups (maximum 4 persons)

  • final exams (English, Hungarian)

Name of diploma: Bachelor of Arts degree

Majors: Teacher training in music - Piano, Violin, Cello, Guitar, Flute, Chamber Music (4 years)

Length of study programme: 8 semesters (4 years)

Admission requirements: At least a Musical High School level in any applied instrument, or voice. Strong basic knowledge in every theoretical subject. Excellent knowledge of English.

Application procedure: Knowledge of Music Theory and Instrument or Voice according to musical vocational secondary school (in the case of knowledge of other instrument, the basic knowledge of piano is essential for the completion of the course).

Foreign students are required to send:

1. A completed application form

2. An audio cassette tape

a. Duration - minimum: 20 minutes

- maximum: 30 minutes

b. Including at least three styles

c. Unedited

d. Accompanied by a certificate stating "This is the unaided and unedited performance of the applicant".

3. An officially attested English translation of your high school/ secondary school diploma/leaving certificate/graduation certificate/ (according to the educational system in your country)
