12.4.1. Objectives of River Training River training measures aim at achieving one or more of the following objectives:
(i) Flood Protection River floods of very small frequency inundate the fertile and thickly-populated plains adjacent to the river, and, thus, cause considerable loss to human life, property, agriculture, and public and private utilities. Statistics collected by the Central Water and Power Commission for flood damage in India during 1953-63 have been given in Table 10.3 to show the extent of loss due to floods.
