Research experience
1982-1986 Junior & Senior Research Fellow, Department of Science &
Technology (DST), New Delhi
1986-1989 Scientist, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR),
New Delhi. Under Scientists’ Pool Scheme
1990-1991 Research Associate, CSIR, New Delhi.
1991 (June-Sept) Visiting Scientist, Indian National Science Academy (INSA) New Delhi. Visited Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and worked with Prof. G. Govil on Application of 2D NMR and its related techniques like NOESY & COSY in DNA / RNA structural analysis.
1991-1992 UNESCO Fellow, at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, in the laboratory of late Prof. T. Hata and worked on Development of a new chlorinating reagent. The suitably modified nucleosides were easily converted to 5'-chloro- and 3'-chloro-dideoxy nucleosides, the highly useful synthons.
1992-1995 Scientist, DST, New Delhi under Young Scientists Program. The work done under this project was; i) introduction of a new thiocarbamate linkage as internucleoside bond, and, ii) synthesis of some fluorescent and anti-fungal nucleoside analogues.
1994(Jan-April) Visiting Scientist, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, India. Visited ASTRA Research Centre India, Bangalore and worked on Development of Non-radioactive Diagnostic kit for Malaria Detection using biotinylated Oligonucleotides. It was a highly sensitive technique in comparison to the traditionally used one.
1995-1997 Post Doctoral Fellow, at Chiba Institute of Technology, Japan in the laboratory of Prof. H. Takaku, and worked on Synthesis and Biological properties of 5'-2' oligonucleotides. Studies were done on duplex and triplex formation using DNA/RNA fragments and duplexes as well using Tm measurement and gel retardation studies. The 5'-2' oligonucleotides were indigenously prepared by introducing modifications at sugar level, on Gene Synthesizer following the normal protocol.

Techniques learnt Solution and solid phase synthesis of oligonucleotides and peptides and various techniques like TLC, Flash column chromatography, hplc, gel electrophoresis, UV, IR and NMR. In addition to these, techniques used in anti-sense and antigene approaches in gene expression including duplex and triplex formation, sequencing, PCR, Drug designing and development, Microbial Testing, etc also are the integral part of my research interest.
