Notes for IONA BOK: Helen Smith Elliott's second husband was George Bok & they had a daughter, Iona, that was the pride of their lives. Iona eventually married & moved to California. Karen Ann Smith was born on Sunday, 8-28-1966 in Columbus, Franklin county, OH. It was a beautiful, cool, non-humid, "Colorado day." She was born at University Hosp. of The Ohio State Univ. campus very near the football stadium. This hospital building is now called Doan Hall after the Dean of the medical school while I was a freshman, who is the man who devised the way blood cells are classified. He worked with Florence Sabin, MD, a Central City, CO physician whose statue now graces the capitol in Washington DC. Karen weighed 5 pounds, 7 3/4 ounces and was 18 1/4 inches long. She was born at 10:05 AM. Delivered by James "Hutch" Williams, an asst. dean of the medical school. She went home to 2586 N. Fourth St., Columbus, OH on 8-31-66. She is a Buckeye to the core and is an EIGHTH generation Ohioan! Monsignor Donovan at Holy Name Church, Columbus, OH, christened her on Sunday, September 18, 1966. Her proud Godparents are Donald Lee Smith and Justine "Tina" Vincunas. She received First Holy Communion at Christ the King Church in Denver CO on March 30, 1975. G-parents Smith and Auntie Madeline Vincunas were in attendance. She attended St. Louis grade school, Englewood CO. and was a Brownie. She also attended grade school in Carlsbad CA and while there was a drum majorette and marched down the main street of Oceanside CA. She was really good. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1984 and was an outstanding student and made her parents very proud. She graduated from the Boettcher auditorium. The ceremony was very nice. Bishop George Evans, a very popular bishop, confirmed her at St. Louis Church, Englewood, CO. He died prematurely of cancer. Her sponsor was Sandy Frati. Karen worked at Orange Julius and did work at the Porter Hsp lab in high school. This prepared her for her future career. She also was an avid ice skater at the DU arena and ran cross-country for her alma mater. Karen and her sisters were in 4-H. She became quite the seamstress and made some beautiful clothes and award winning dolls in the Latin Honor Society competition. She was in symphony debs and attended faithfully. She was an excellent student and they prepared her for CU where she continued her intellectual prowess. Karen graduated from the University of Colorado on Saturday, July 23, 1988. The ceremony was held at the Quadrangle of the medical center. I supplied the music. It was a small, dignified ceremony and Karen was awarded her BS in Medical Technology, but bigger plans were in the offing. Probably one of Karen's biggest thrills to date was seeing Princess Diana in person (died 8-29-1997) while she was spending a semester in dear ole London town her senior year on a scholarship! She developed a "wonderful" accent that periodically resurfaces after a pint or two of hard cider. Her sisters and Greg were able to visit her and every body had a very good time with the family Anglo-Historian. She was married to Gregory Hoggatt on July 30, 1988 at St. Louis Church, Englewood CO. Fr. Robert I. Durrie and a deacon did the honors. The reception was held at the Phipps Mansion; an old Pittsburgh family home where President Eisenhower slept! The band was something to behold and will always be remembered. We danced the day away anyway. It was a warm, beautiful summer day and Paul stole some of my booze, but fortunately I did save some for later medicinal purposes spent their honeymoon in the beautiful state of Colorado. The Hoggatt's lived in several apartments and then moved to their brand new home in Parker, CO. Their address: 15384 Woodruff Way. Along the way "Guinness" the perfect Scotty was obtained and has graced all our homes and lives. They have a cabin in the Spanish Peaks area of Colorado called "Hoggatt's Hacienda" which Greg says "takes me back to the Colorado of 1950's." Lots of wildlife there including brown bears that aren't so nice. Their first child, Katrina Elizabeth, was born at Swedish Med. Ctr. in Englewood, CO on January 21, 1994. Her father was in attendance this time also! She was baptized at Ave Maria Church, Parker, CO on March 13. 1994. Suzanne and Steven Nuttall were the Godparents. What a smiling, big brown-eyed baby. Karen has achieved quite a reputation at Met West Lab where she is the manager of their out-patient laboratory facilities, and has a company car! Her last day with the company is 4-28-1995. Karen graduated with her master of business administration from the Univ. of Colorado on 5-14-1995, The ceremony was held at the Denver Convention Ctr. All was in attendance. She is large with baby #2 due in July, 1995 but Meredith Marie was not to wait and was born at Swedish Medical Ctr on 6-26-1995 with daddy and grandparents Smith in attendance. She was delivered by Kelly Lennon, M.D. & daddy cut the umbilical cord. This ended up being quite the party after Karen was in labor 3 hours! Grandparents Hoggatt were in Alaska. Karen had her 3rd child, a son, Trevor Douglas Hoggatt on 1-15-1998 at Littleton Hsp in Littleton, CO. Aunt Suzanne cut the umbilical cord! Kelly Lennon, MD was the OB/GYN. Trevor is quite a hand full! Life is good for the Hoggats till 2001 when some strife hit with Greg's job but they are strong and survived. Karen collects cookbooks and has learned well. She is quite the cook & her meals are absolutely delicious. She makes a mean chicken & dumplings as well as other things. She has become an excellant Hungarian cook, as well, & has mastered nut rolls & cabbage rolls. She also likes English things. She is a typical "soccer" mom & also collects dolls for a hobby. She is active in her church teaching catechism. Her kids & husband are so lucky to have such a wonderful mom! In 2004 she resumed her career at the new Parker Adventist Hsp. near their home. Good things would come from this preparation! The graduation was held on campus & everybody was there at a very nice party. He had been a proctor of the dorm while there and joined a Jewish fraternity where he met Craig Mason. Paul Schwappach, his closest friend, graduated from Creighton Univ. in Omaha NE. Greg was married at St. Louis Church in Englewood CO on 7-30-1988. He married Karen Ann Smith and her family! The fabulous reception was held at the Boettcher Mansion. The band was talked about a lot. His best man, Paul Schwappach, tried to steal all the left over booze but was caught in the act by me. Cheapo!! The honeymoon was taken all over the fabulous state of Colorado. Greg worked for Great Western Life, then went to Pace and they went bankrupt. . . not caused by Greg I am sure. He then went to Oracle where they gave him a nice promotion in July 1995. In 2-2003 Greg began working with a private computer company in Denver, CO. He is now with Modus, Jacksonville, FL. Greg is the consummate outdoorsman with camping, fishing and hunting his hobbies. He is also lucky and got a bull elk the FIRST time out!! This elk is proudly displayed above his fireplace. He now is a very good hockey player & his son is following in his footsteps. Greg had pneumonia in March, 1995 and was admitted to Swedish Hsp. and treated by the world's greatest doctor. . . guess who? He went hunting in Oct, 1995 with all the guys, his parents, and Gary but no luck...had a great trip anyway...tried out his new trailer. Been hunting subsequently with lots of deer being shot. Loves to go to his beautiful cabin in the Spanish Peaks area...lots of bear there! In 2002 visited Yellowstone with their trailer & camped out & had a great time. Jackson Wheeler, Cindy's husband, was visiting from Hawaii in a "million to one chance of being here." A Deacon baptized her on March 13, 1994 at Ave Maria Church in Parker, CO. Her proud Godparents were Suzanne and Steven Nuttall. She is a big brown-eyed beauty who smiles all the time and is a delight to everybody. The beauty goes with the 60% middle European that this girl inherited! She had to have tubes put in both ears in Nov. 1994 at Swedish Hsp. by Dr Alan Lipkin. She was walking BY HERSELF on St. Patrick's day, 1995. She is so happy and healthy at home with mommy and her sister! She is just so smart...saying 3 letter sentences at 19 months. Her new bedroom has been finished by her mommy and has a fish fresco! a'la Michelangelo along the sides of the room. Very nice!! She took a trip to Florida in Oct. 1995 and saw Shamu the whale! She was the flower girl in the Whiteford wedding in 1999 and when she got dressed she exclaimed, "look at me." She wore the white gloves and locket she got every day after the wedding. For the millennium her grandpa & grandma Hoggatt took them to San Diego, CA and they saw Shamu...need I say more? They also sang with their daddy, " Oh what a night." On 5-5-2002 she received her First Holy Communion at Ave Maria Catholic Church, Parker CO at 2:00 PM mass. She was dressed in a white dress with several strands of white flowers in her hair and she looked "like a bride of Christ." All the important family members were there. She got her G-G-G'ma's prayer book given to her about 1921. A party was held later at her house and a Mother's day party was held for G'ma Smith who came with G'pa Smith from Hutchinson Island, Florida. She made her First Communion at Ave Maria parish with a large number of kids on 5-5-2002. Everybody was there to see this young girl becoming a big girl and we are so proud of her. She is quite active in soccer and helps her team win. Enjoys school and is a good student. She will inherit a large Weller Jardinere made in Zanesville, Ohio that has been in the family since 1925. Notes for MEREDITH MARIE HOGGATT: Meredith Marie Hoggatt was born at Swedish Medical Ctr in Englewood, CO on the night of 6-26-1995. Her father, grandfather, and grandmother Smith along with Dr. Kelly Lennon were in attendance. She was born at 10:08 PM and dad got to cut the umbilical cord. It had been a beautiful sunny day. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces & is 19 inches long. She has dark hair and blue eyes. Grandma and Grandpa Hoggatt were vacationing in Alaska. I think she is going to have beautiful brown, curly hair. She is a beautiful brown hair, blue-eyed beauty and is called "Marsh" by her sister. She was baptized by a Deacon on 9-10-1995 at Ave Marie Church in Parker CO. Eric and Lisa Kihn were her Godparents. A big party was held at the parent's house after the ceremony. She took a trip to Florida in Oct. 1995 but it rained the whole time. She is very proud to have been to Hawaii multiple times and really likes it. She also has turned into quite a cook at the age of 4. In May 2000 she gave her first dancing recital and was just wonderful with a beautiful costume. She is a good student and enjoys school and is now playing soccer with great enthusiasm. Trevor Hoggatt was born at Littleton Hsp, Littleton, CO on 1-15-1998. It was a cold, clear & sunny Colorado day when this bundle of joy arrived at 11:43 AM. He weighed 8 lbs, 1/2 oz., and was 20 inches long. He is a handsome brute with blue eyes and light brown hair. He has a prominent chin. Kelly Lennon, M.D., and daddy did the honors, but Aunt Suzanne cut the cord. This is the 133 wedding anniversary of Cyrus Roberts, a Civil war veteran ancestor, and also Constance Hoggatt's birthday. He was baptized on 4-19-1998 at Ave Marie Parish in Parker, CO. Paul Schwappach and Linda was his Godparents. Had a big party after the ceremony at his house. Aunt Cathy and Uncle Philip Van Wyck from Phoenix were the out of town guests. He is now a baldy but has really blue eyes and a round face. He is the happiest baby, always smiling, and is growing fast. Has developed an asthma condition whenever he gets an upper respiratory condition though that has the whole family nervous. On 10-19-99 he had to be taken by ambulance to Littleton Hsp for an asthma attack. The first time was when he was visiting Grandma and Grandpa Smith and the ambulance came, treated him with steroids, oxygen and albuterol. He was whisked off to Dr Katz, his pediatrician, and all was OK again. He has had subsequent asthma attacks but they are relatively mild. He is quite a boy, in to everything, but will be the football star his initials suggest TD. He is currently wanting to be a hockey star. He loves trucks that he calls "bowwas" and all kinds of things mechanical. Took him to the Railroad museum in Golden CO and he was in 7th heaven. This boy is destined for engineering like his grandfather Hoggatt.
