Dr. Arun Kumar earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Calicut (St.Joseph’s College, Devagiri), Master’s degree from the University of Madras (R.K.M. Vivekananda College) and PhD. degree from the University of Calicut, in Botany. During his PhD. studies, he acquired training in mushroom taxonomy (agaricology). His did Post doctoral research at the University of Minnesota, USA, was in Fungal Ultrastructure and Fungal Evolutionary Biology. He was also trained in Molecular Fungal Taxonomy and Phylogeny from the Clark University, Massachusetts, USA. While in the US, he was involved with the I and II phases of “Assembling the Fungal Tree of Life” (AFTOL) project, a part of the global “Tree of Life” (ToL) initiative. He moved back to India to join the Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College as an Assistant Professor in Botany, now teaching Bachelor’s and Master’s degree classes. He is a recognized research guide of the University of Calicut. Dr. Arun Kumar’s research now focuses on the Fungal diversity of Western ghats, India.
