L’ITC(*) d’ILEBO remercie le Collège de Melle

Fr Georges Minga, head teacher

of our Commercial School in Ilebo

shows us some photos of the new shirts

given by the pupils

of the College of Melle.

Directeur de l’I.T.C. d’Ilebo

The life and Josephite Vocation of our dear Fr Raymond was celebrated at his funeral on Sat 15th in the College Chapel at Louvain. Fr Willem presided and Fr Willibrord preached. There were many colleagues and friends from Louvain and Melle along with members of Raymond's family including his surviving sisters and brother. Fr General was present along with Frs Willbrord, Jozef and Edwin from Louvain, Frs Jacob, Francois, and Aimé from Geraardsbergen, Fr Guido from La Berliere and Fr Aidan Peter and Br Michael from England. Fr Paul could not attend sadly as he was returning that day from Congo.

Fr Raymond had been Superior at Melle for 26 years and Louvain for several more. He also held at different times the Office of Belgian Regional Superior and Prefect General amongst other ministries.

In all this Fr. Raymond was an excellent example of the Josephite qualities of douceur, politesse, hospitality and Fatherhood. He was great friend to many and his fatherly concern, gentleness, kindness and advice shone through all that he did as Fr. Willibrord his brother novice explained to all in the eulogy/homily.

Fr Jacob gave thanks for Raymond's great witness to the religious life and concern for the African province. Fr Aidan Peter spoke of the encouragement and welcome he always gave to confreres especially younger ones and always with a gentle sense of humour.

Fr Raymond's remains were taken and buried at The Abbey Parc where the Louvain Community confreres are laid to rest alongside the graves of P. Armand and P. Joseph Misha Mi Kwet.

Adieu, P Raymond, if I can be half the Josphite you were then I will indeed be a very good Josephite. May you now listen and indeed sing amongst the choir of angels and rest in piece.

Good bye dear Father.

Aidan Peter CJ, Regional Vicar
Meeting of The European Region in Geraardsbergen May 2014

On Sunday afternoon 25 May 2014, we set off on our travels to Belgium. We travelled via the Chanel Tunnel arriving in Geraardsbergen in time for a late supper and the chance of an early night. The next day we met for Mass at 11.00. After a pause for prayer and a blessing at the tomb of our Venerable Founder we had drinks in the Old Novitiate followed by lunch in the Josephite Refectory. It was also good that the Heads of our three schools in Geraardsbergen and the Bursar from the school at Geraardsbergen were able to join us for the occasion. Also present was The Dean of Geraardsbergen. Apart from the reunion we had the chance to celebrate the installation of a resident Josephite Community at Geraardsbergen. Many thanks to Fr Jacob and his community and we wish them Ad Multos Annos in the Motherhouse at Geraardsbergen.

Br Pat C.J.

EASTER IS A TIME OF PARTIES !
It seems as if the confreres of the English Community have taken Easter as a Season of Celebrations seriously this year. We seem have had a series of very good meals together and with others since the start of the great Season of the Resurrection.

The first photo is the St George’s College Easter lunch table with Fr General and Br Michael joining the St George’s Community. Unable to be with us were Fr Nicholas (with his Mother), Fr Martin (leading a Pilgrimage with students to Lourdes), Fr Richard (with the DMJs at Emmaus) and Fr Bill (who was being looked after by parishioners down in Bournemouth).

On St George’s Day as we have done as a recent tradition we invited all the priests, deacons and religious of our Deanery to join us for supper. We had a great curry meal for 30 in our refectory; a bit of a squeeze but we managed it.

At the beginning of May we invited the Governing Board of the College and their spouses to join us for a formal dinner. A very enjoyable time was had by all. We felt it was important to honour our lay collaborators with an excellent meal. Companionship comes from Cum Pané, the sharing of bread so it was also important that we thank the husbands and wives of our Governors who have to share they partner’s time with us. Our Governors are all very experienced men and women in their fields of finance, education and management. They are also committed to the ideal of Josephite education. Some are parents, some are old Georgians and Frs Bill, Adrian and Robert also sit on the Board. Without these companions bringing their skills and enthusiasm for St George’s we would not be one of the pre-eminent catholic independent schools in Britain today.

One of the tables laid out for our governors. 2-3 confreres entertained our guests on each table. The meal was prepared by our two cooks Leandra (weekdays) and Claire (weekends).

The two lovely wines were supplied by an Old Georgian.

The menu’s were produced by Br Pat

Great thanks to Frs Adrian and Aidan Peter for preparing this event and converting our Community Common Room into a restaurant!

Bishop Kieran came to celebrate three Deanery Confirmation Masses at the College last weekend and he joined us with the coordinating team of catechists, liturgists etc for lunch. Bishop Kieran is a good friend of the Josephites and always enjoys his visits and feels he can relax when he is amongst us. We always enjoy his easy going company as well ashis pastoral concern and support.

Then we had our own party! It was good to get all the English Community together for a reflection, community meeting and Evening Prayer. It was also an occasion to bless the new garden at Horton Road, Stanwell Moor, where Fr General and Fr Nicholas live. The garden had overgrown and the fence had collapsed so it is now renovated and soon to be stocked with plants. Fr Nicholas asked Fr Aidan Peter as Regional Vicar to bless and “Open” the gardens. We then had a wonderful supper of beef and pork prepared for us by Fr Nicholas.

Fr Aidan cuts the ribbon to open the new garden after having blest it.

Frs General and Bill were having a meeting inside so we got on with it!

Fr General and Fr Andrew enjoying a glass of wine before the food arrives.

Fr Andrew is our double Jubilarian. He has just celebrated 70 years of religious life at the end of 2013 and is about to celebrate his diamond jubilee of 60 years a priest on the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul. “Ad multos annos” Andrew (now in your 90th year)

Fr Nicholas shows his culinary skills (at Horton Road were he lives with Fr Robert) as he prepares the potatoes for roasting. Nick provided us with an excellent meal joyed by us all.

Several of the English Confreres are good cooks

The English community is not just all about partying, All the confreres both the retired and the active members contribute greatly to the life of the Community. Those in work are tireless in their duties in the schools and parishes we serve. The elder confreres give great witness by their steadfast devotion to the community life both spiritual and communal. This gives support to the other confreres by their fortitude in the face of failing health and old age.

The witness of our Religious Life is one of dedication, commitment and witness to the Josephites and the Church and those we serve but it is also about brotherhood and hospitality and should have an element of fun. So like all things in moderation it is good to party and share!

P. Robert

Seigneur, à qui irions-nous ? Tu as les paroles de vie éternelle.

Sunday 21st September 2014

at Kimwenza in RD Congo:

Three confreres with final vows.

Five confreres with first vows.

The Josephite family is very happy!
