INR 432 Regional Integration Arrangements in Theory II

To grasp the rationale of integration initiatives in Western Europe in the post World War II era, successes and failures of such initiatives, working of the institutions and policies of the EU.



INR 404 European Integration and EU (Elective)

Integration theory and European experience: The evolution of European Union and the institutions like European Council; the application and formulation of Union politics; economical and political cooperation in Europe; the efforts to establish a European Defence System, the analysis of One Market and One Contract; the relations of Turkey with European Union.
INR 412 Conflict Resolution (Elective)

The conflicts regarding politics and law; the ways and methods of establishing peace; the activities of United Nations and the institutions attached to United Nations; the activities to protect common security and peace.
INR 414 European Community Law (Elective)

To teach the students about the historical development and basic terms, concepts and areas of application of the EU Law system. It is also aimed to study on the reflections of this system on Turkey. Students may contribute to spread over the importance of the human rights concepts after the course.



INR 416 World Economic Trends (Elective)

Main trends and their effects on international politics and organizations. An analysis of the roots of these trends and their place in international politics will be analysed.

INR 420 Politics of the Far East Asia (Elective)

At the end of this course students learn the basic issues of Asian international relations and the development of Asian politics.
INR 422 Politics of Central Asia (Elective)

The historical legacy of the Russian and Soviet regimes in the Central Asia, the broad affect of modernisation on the region, the politics and economics of nation and state building in the transition period, the role of traditional forms of politics, and the interregional relations of the area.



INR 424 Politics of Latin America (Elective)

This course aims to analyze competing interpretations of Latin American development, survey the region's political history and participate in some of the most important debates about its political economy. These debates include the politics of public spending and macroeconomic policy, the foreign debt problem, the determinants of stabilization and trade reform, the equity issue and the transition from authoritarianism to democratization.
INR 426 Perspectives on Globalization (Elective)

To give students the understanding of the reality of globalisation with its different dimensions, and to investigate how nation-states benefit from globalisation and avoid or minimize, if possible, its harmful effects.


INR 430 Applied Research (Elective)

The goal of this course is to build upon what has been learned in the previous research methods course and give them the methodological tools necessary to produce quantitative political research of their own.

INT 600 Special Issues

INT 601 International Relations Theory


The purpose of this course is to teach basic theories and theoretical approaches in international relations and thus, to provide to the students some necessary tools to study and analyse international relations, affairs and developments. Some theories and theoretical approaches to be studied within this framework are Idealist, Realist, and Behaviouralist theories; political approaches based on power and its fundamental concepts, and concepts such as balance of power and national interest.

INT 605 Turkish Foreign Policy

Students who are taking this course will be able to analyse the current developments related to Turkish foreign policy and will have an analytical tool to understand the forthcoming issues and developments on Turkish policy agenda with having an academic vision. They will be able to analyse the background of Turkey’s EU candidacy, Turkey’s relations with the USA and USSR, the changing patterns, Cyprus effect, economic requirements and limits of Turkish Republic. These issues and some other important ones will be analysed in the class and et the end of this course students will be ready to study on the current Turkish foreign policy agenda.


INT 633 Water Politics


The main purpose of this course is to analyse and evaluate the subject of water with limited potentialities from different aspects such as demography, economic and social development. The possibility of conflicts over fresh water resources will be discussed. Evaluation of international and trans-boundary water resources in terms of international law will be made and Resolutions of United Nations and other international organizations on this subject will be analysed.
INT 635 Middle East Politics

This course aims to teach the students about the rise and evolution of modern Middle East; Middle East as a sub-system of international politics; the foreign policies of Middle Eastern states; the main issues of international relations in the Middle East.


INT 637 Research Methods


The goal of this course is to give students a working introduction to the basic research methods employed in political science and international relations. A proper working understanding of research methods will make students better producers and consumers of scholarly research.

INT 641 Russian Politics


Student who are taking this course will be able to analyse the current developments related to Russian foreign policy and will have an analytical tool to understand the forthcoming issues and developments on Russian policy agenda with having an academic vision.
