UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

I. YEAR



FALL TERM

INR 101 Introduction to Political Science I


The description and the explanation of political concepts and terminology; the nature of politics as a science and art; the religion-politics and morality-politics relations; the psychological, sociological and economical bases of politics.

INR 121 Fundamental Concepts of Law

This course examines the basic concepts of law and the preliminary issues in Turkish legal system by which some certain categories of the relationships among individuals inhabited in Turkey are regulated. We will also look at the basics of the institutional and the organisational structure through which the market-based allocation of resources is guaranteed.

ECO 135 Introduction to Economics I


The objective of this course is to give the student the basic concepts and tools of the economic analysis. In general, the aim is to cultivate a disciplined way of thinking “economically” on real world economic problems. The focus of the course will be on the conceptual foundations of the economics discipline, without omitting the concrete cases that could be relevant for economic analysis. At the end of this course, students are expected to acquire some notion as to what economics is about. After examining the basic framework of economics in general and its concepts, the main focus will be microeconomics, which deals with the individual decision problems.

KAY 135 Introduction to Sociology


In this class, it is aimed that student will learn the basic concepts of sociology and gain the ability to analyze the social phenomena through these concepts.

INR 161 History of Civilizations I

The content of this course is the analysis of various civilizations that had established the stepstones on the civilizational path of humanity from the beginning of the first human societies till the end of the Roman Empire.
INR 171 Computer Skills I

What is computer? Ms Windows, Ms Word, Creating Word documents, Enhancing and working on Word. Creating tables, wordart etc. Index, contents and grafics. Introduction to Ms FrontPage.


SPRING TERM
INR 102 Introduction to Political Science II

The goal of this course is to complete your introduction to the field of political science. We will consider several sub-fields of political science as we examine formal political institutions, informal political institutions, political behavior, public opinion, and political ideologies.



INR 122 Introduction to Constitutional Law


The broad topic of constitutional law deals with the interpretation and implementation of the Turkish Constitution (http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.overview.html). As the Constitution is the foundation of the Turkish State, constitutional law deals with some of the fundamental relationships within our society. The Constitutional Court has played a crucial role in interpreting the Constitution. In addittion, the course will enable the students to understand the basic concepts of constitutional law inculding the principle of rule of law and social state.

ECO 136 Introduction to Economics II


The objective of the course is to give the student an idea about macroeconomics. The student is expected to acquire an understanding of the problems towards which this kind of analysis is directed to understand, namely, determination of national income, money and credit, employment and unemployment. By instilling the macroeconomic models firmly, the course aims to focus on real world macroeconomic problems.

INR 162 History of Civilizations II

The content of this course is the most prominent developments from the birth of Christianity till the Vienna Conference, and the powers and ideas that become hegemonic at the global stage.
INR 172 Computer Skills II

Using computer applications on economics and econometrics. Windows Operating system, MS Excel. Problem solving: solving statistical, economic and management problems using computers. MS PowerPoint Creating presentations.



INR 184 Research Methods

The goal of this course is to give students a working introduction to the basic research methods employed in political science and international relations. A proper working understanding of research methods will make students better producers and consumers of scholarly research.

II. YEAR



FALL TERM

INR 201 International Relations I

This course is an introduction to the study of international relations with the purpose of helping students to acquire analytical tools to understand international politics. In the first part of the course, relevant historical developments and organizing principles of modern international system are studied through the analysis of the evolution of international society in history. Second part of the course deals with the main theoretical and methodological approaches to International Relations.

INR 213 Political History I

The content of this course consists of Euro-cantric political developments that have global impacts starting with the Vienna Conference until the World War I.

INR 285 International Trade Theory and Policy

Theories which attempt to explain international trade. Theories of comparative advantage based on labour productivity and natural resources. New trade theories. International factor movements. The instruments of trade policy. The political economy of trade policy. Trade policy in developing countries. Controversies in trade policy.



INR 287 International Law I

This course focuses on main topics and controversies in public international law. The topics we study include History and theory, Sources of international law,States and governments, Treaties, Human rights,The law of sea and the continuing tension between sovereignty and international law, between parochialism and cosmopolitanism. The student is expected to gain a confidence to speak on the daily conflicts with regard to the theory of international law.
