No other information has been received (despite repeated inquiries) from the Institute for information on education (an institution controlled by the Ministry of Education).
6. A paper on activities of the Office for External Affairs
See Appendix 4.
7. A list of interdisciplinary initiatives in both Education and
Research, with corresponding budget allocations
Interfaculty cooperation in education is governed by an internal regulation of the Brno University of Technology where rates per one hour of instruction are determined at approx. 200-400 CZK/hour (in dependence on the type of instruction - seminar, exercise or lecture by a professor, associate professor or lecturer) . The rates are agreed before the start of the semester by the respective Vice-Deans for Study Affairs. If, on a rare occasion, an agreement is not reached, negotiations are conducted by the Deans.
Interfaculty cooperation in research is not governed by a regulation. However, it is supported on a long-term basis by the leadership of the university.
7. 1 Interfaculty cooperation – Faculty of Chemistry
Instruction:
a) cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. – FCH provides instruction in chemistry for FME ,income : 2002 125 ,000 CZK
2003 173 ,000 CZK
2004 256 ,000 CZK
b) Instruction in chemical engineering at FCH provided by FME´s staff - approx. 50,000 CZK annually
Research:
a) 5 interdisciplinary postgraduate students
b) cooperation in grant COST, FCH receives from FME (chief investigator) approx. 300,000 CZK annually
The financial outcome of interfaculty cooperation in education does not attain 1% of the total education funding and approx. 6-8% of research funding – see below:
Year education (million CZK) research (million CZK))
2002 42,5 ( 0,41 % interfaculty) 4,9 (6,12 % interfaculty)
2003 44,2 (0,51 % interfaculty) 4,0 (7,5 % interfaculty)
2004 58,5 (0,52 % interfaculty) 3,7 (8,1 % interfaculty)
7.2 Interfaculty cooperation – Faculty of Fine Arts
Academics of the FFA provide tuition at the University of the Third Age (funds are allocated by the Rector´s Office). They are not involved in teaching at any faculty, and do not participate in major research projects at the university.
7.3 Interfaculty cooperation – Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication
Instruction is purchased from the Faculty of Business and Management (approx. 0.5 million CZK) . On the other hand, instruction is provided for FIT (approx.4 million CZK) and for FME (approx.0.4 million CZK). On the whole, approx. 2% of instruction is purchased and up to 10% sold, which is expressed by numbers of student/hours.
7.4 Interfaculty cooperation - Faculty of Architecture
Only 12 out of the total number of teachers have engagements at other BUT faculties (FFA, FAST, University of the Third Age), one teacher receives pay from another faculty.
7.5 Interfaculty cooperation – Faculty of Civil Engineering
Tuition in language courses is provided for students of FBM, FA, FEEC and FIT who are taking opportunity to study other than English language. Payments annually amount to 90,000 CZK. In the period 2001-2004 FCE cooperated with FME and FBM in a joint research project where the three faculties equally shared the annual amount of 4.7 million CZK.
