7.2.7b Compliance with the Standards of Weights & Measures Act The practice at present is that the inspecting authorities hold the retailers also liable for any violations in compliance with the standards of Weights and Measures Act. The High Level Group found the argument of the retail industry compelling that as they purchase products from large numbers of suppliers, it is not practical for them to verify whether the manufacturers have complied with the provisions of the Act. The Act needs to be amended to make only the manufacturers and packers responsible for non-compliance and not the retailers.
