Education - 1997 - Degree of Dr.habil.Phys. from the University of Latvia, 1992 - studies in NATO Advanced Studies Institute (Ultrafast processes in Condensed Matter, Italy), 1987/88 - Postdoctoral studies in Johannes Kepler University of Linz (Austria), 1982 - Degree of Dr.Phys from the Latvian State University, 1973 - graduation of Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Latvian State University (Riga), 1968 - graduation of 1 st City High School of Cçsis.
Professional experience - Professor in Physics Department of Daugavpils University (DU) (1999-2003), now -Head of Condensed Matter Laboratory (DU). Before he had received positions of senior scientific researcher (1988) and leading scientific researcher (1994) from the Institute of Solid state physics (University of Latvia). During 1990-2003 - Project leader of 3 grants of Latvian Council of Science in the field of laser diagnostics and technology; 1988-90 - Project leader with Joint Nuclear Reserch Institute (Dubna) in the field of laser diagnostics of superconductors, 1985-87 - Project leader with Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute (Zukovsk) in the field of laser assisted remote thermal sensing.
Additional education and experiences - He had given lecture courses on Nonlinear optics and Modern optical materials, Physics of Microworld, Thermodynamics, Optics, Hystory of Physics, Introduction in advancrd Physics ( 1988-2003), University of Latvia, Daugavpils Pedagogical University). Lectures in University of Vienna (1988,1991), University of Innsbruck (1988), University of Grac (1988), Technical University of Dresden (1991), Pierre et Marie Curie University of Paris (1997-9) had been devoted to the topics of laser chemistry,material science, solid state physics, laser physics and nonlinear optics. He has about 90 scientific papers, including 4 inventions. He was a Member of Senate of University of Latvia (1992-95) and now in Daugavpils University, he was a President of Latvian Physical Society (1997-2000) and vicepresident during (2000-2003). He is fluent in Russian and English, he is able also to communicate in German and French. He has three children. He has car driving licence. Main hobbies are: chess, fishing, windsurfing and photography.
