8OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

8.1General remarks

This chapter describes fundamental aspects of the design concerning security of employees, passengers and sanitary condition maintenance within public utility and personnel-only zones.

8.1.1Selection of technical guidelines in the facility adapted to the OSH and sanitary requirements.

At each station there will be a sanitary complex for station permanent staff and employees periodically performing their duties at the station.

All the technological rooms, intended for permanent human residence, will have air conditioning, ensuring the maintenance of normative working conditions.

Adequately to the number of employees provided in the station, a standard number of hygienic and sanitary equipment will be provided.

Sanitary facilities will be provided separately for people using the Metro trains.

A separate toilet for persons with limited mobility and intercom connection with the toilets service staff will be provided within the public toilet complex.

All elements of the station associated with OSH or information will be accessible to persons with disabilities within the height of the installation, ease of use, operation and mobility capabilities.

All elevator cabins will provide the possibility of being operated by people with reduced mobility.

There will be separate rooms for the purpose of maintaining the cleanliness of the station. The movement of equipment between the station levels will take place using an elevator during a break in-service.

Municipal waste will be collected at stations separately in containers in the designated rooms and exported from the site of the station by authorised companies on the basis of agreements.

8.1.2Water supply network

The water shall be supplied from the municipal water network to the station. All hygienic and sanitary equipment will be connected to the municipal network.

8.1.3Power systems

The basic elements of the Metro power system are traction substations, designed to power the Metro traction network and AC-load points of Metro facilities.

A power substation is intended to supply the AC-load points of Metro facilities.

Emergency lighting at the station and holding tracks is designed on the basis of Polish Standard PN-EN 1838 and PN-EN 12464-1. Evacuation and backup lighting should be used as the emergency lighting. Lighting should be installed on both the public roads (platforms, stairs, heads, service levels) and in the passageways located in areas accessible only to staff and in route tunnels.

Evacuation signs illuminated internally should be provided in general-access zones of the station (platforms, commercial levels, and stairs) regardless of the emergency lighting.

8.1.4Basic ventilation

The range of basic ventilation covers the whole of the station (with the exception of technological rooms) and route tunnels. The role of the basic ventilation is to ensure the composition of air in accordance with applicable standards, to provide appropriate climatic conditions for the Metro and ensure the effectiveness of smoke removal from the stations and tunnels.

During normal operation, in the warm period of the year, outdoor air will be supplied to the station by the ventilation shafts and fans (placed in station fan houses), but will be deducted by the ventilation shafts and fans. In the cold period of the year the direction of airflow is changed for the opposite – the outside air will be supplied by ventilation shafts and then, after heating (due to the flow through the tunnel) flows into the station, where it will be removed by the fans located in the station fan house.

That will allow to maintain proper temperature at stations in the warm period of the year, and during cool weather it will provide heated air after passing through the external air tunnel.

8.2Locker rooms and lavatories

Technical zones:

In "Świętokrzyska" station 18 persons are to be employed, including 2 women and 16 men. The largest shift will include 8 employees. There is a locker room for 30 II line security service employees in the station, and according to that, an appropriate number of showers, washbasins and toilets has been designed. For each employee there will be a separate two-compartment locker (with the possibility to separate clean and dirty clothes) in the vicinity of showers facility provided.

In accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Infrastructure issued on April 12, 2002 (Journal of Laws 2002, No. 75, pos. 690) concerning "the technical conditions the buildings and their surrounding shall comply with", chapter 6 "Hygienic and Sanitary Facilities" - §84 and the Decree of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy issued on September 26, 2007 concerning the health and safety regulations (register no. 169/2009, pos. 1650) shall be provided:

1 WC for 20 women

1 WC for 30 men

1 urinal for 30 men

1 washbasin for 20 persons

8.3Toilets

8.3.1Technical rooms

The maximum distance to the toilet to be covered by the employee is 75 m. Technical zone also includes a toilet adapted for the disabled, despite of the fact that the Warsaw Metro is not planning to employ any disabled person. The design takes into account also possible visits of persons from outside (inspectors or experts).

8.3.2Places accessible to passengers - public zones

Public toilets are located in east head concourses, on the level -1.

In the eastern concourse have been provided: 4 washbasins, 2 urinals and 2 toilets for men, as well as 4 toilets and 4 washbasins for women, and a separate toilet for the disabled. Special room for toilet service staff and storing indispensable objects has been provided.

In accordance with the minimal requirements a toilet for retail trading rooms employees, men and women, has been provided in the western concourse.
