Rationale

RTVF does offer elective “tracks” of courses (film courses, radio studies/practice courses, television studies/production courses, and theoretical/methodological/analytical courses). However these are presented as an open-ended opportunity for students to explore courses in every area – radio, television, and film studies. We encourage students to “cross over” and between areas in order to develop a broader capacity within both academe and the media markets and industries generally. Thus, while we offer courses in each “area” as elective “tracks” these should actually be seen as mutually supportive and complimentary.

12. Unclassified Changes
Fill in this part if there is a change which can not be classified in any of the changes described in above sections.

Brief description of the change

We have moved courses out of the “core” of the old program and into the AE-RTVF of the new program – although there is no space here to discuss and document AE courses.

Rationale

We are providing RTVF students with the flexibility to move ‘between’ areas of film, television, and/or radio studies rather than compel all students to take these areas as core courses. We believe this will accomplish at least two goals: 1). To encourage students to engage critically in evaluating the direction their course work might take through a careful selection of complimentary courses, and 2). An emphasis on the inter-relatedness of media studies in general and the multi-media nature of all communication and media studies work.
