Analysis and interpretation of optical and radar satellite imagery for the investigation of active tectonic structures. Geological and geomorphological surveys and quantitative geomorphological analysis. Paleoseismological trenches and radiometric datings. Shallow ground penetrating radar surveys for the investigation of the surface stratigraphy along fault zones. Resistivity soundings and profiles for stratigraphic studies along fault zones.

Analysis of multispectral remote sensing data acquired by satellite and airborne (AVIRIS, MIVIS) platforms, atmospheric correction of remote sensing data using empirical and analytical methods, data calibration and retrieval of surface spectral reflectance. In situ spectrometric surveys, also in extreme environments (Antarctica). Generation of databases of spectral signatures of rocks and other natural sufaces. Deterministic analysis of iperspectral data.

Analysis of ground deformation using satellite SAR interferometry.

Use of InSAR for the analysis of co-seismic ground displacement and of interseismic strain accumulation. SAR-GPS integration and cross-validation. Forward and inverse modeling of coseismic ground deformation using analytical dislocation models.

Developments of methods and procedures for the use of remote sensing techniques for the operational monitoring and surveillance in support of volcanic, seismic and hydrogeological risk management.
