Gianfranco Fornaro has authored in the SAR field more than a hundred of papers (peer-review journals and proceedings of international conferences). He has been serving as regular Reviewer for several journals (IEEE Transaction Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Transaction on Image Processing, IEEE Transaction on Aerospace and Electronic System, IEE Proceeding Radar Sonar and Navigation, International Journal of Remote Sensing, Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing and Electronic Letters). In 2005 he served as Editor of the “Advances in Interferometric SAR processing” special issue of the EURASIP Journal on Applied Signal Processing (JASP). He is currently Associate Editor of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine “Recent Advances in Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging” special Issue. He is also Associate Editor of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters journal.

Dr. Fornaro has been serving as Chairman and Convener of invited sessions in several editions of the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), of the European Conference on SAR (EUSAR) and of the Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event (JURSE). He has been member of the Scientific Committee of IGARSS in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, of JURSE in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and EUSAR in 2012; he is member of the Technical Program Chair of the IGARSS 2013 Conference.



In 1994 Dr. Fornaro participated to the SIR-C/X-SAR experiment in which the first results of X-Band Interferometry from space were generated. The experiment took place at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) during the STS Shuttle Endeavour mission, and was the precursor to the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) of 2000 in which a global Digital Elevation Model were derived with the SAR interferometry technique.
