6 Make notes about a recipe you like. Write 
the ingredients you need and then number the 
ingredients in the order you use them.
•
Remind students of the list of ingredients in the recipe 
on Workbook page 34. Explain that they need to choose 
a dish they know how to make that is not too difficult. 
They write the name of the dish in the middle and the 
ingredients in the shapes around it. Circulate and help 
with new vocabulary. Provide bilingual dictionaries if 
necessary.

7 Write a food blog and include a recipe.
•
Students write their own food blog, including a recipe, 
in the space provided. They use their list of ingredients 
from activity 
1
6 and the blog on Workbook page 34 to 
help them. Point out that the beginning of the blog is 
an introduction to the dish she describes in the recipe, 
including the name of the dish. Remind them what they 
learned about giving instructions in the previous lesson 
and write key verbs for recipes on the board as prompts 
(e.g., 
cut/chop, mix, pour, bake, add, serve
).

Students can then swap books in pairs and read each 
other’s blogs. They can ask questions about their 
partner’s recipe (e.g., 
Who do you usually cook it for?
) 
and say whether they would like to make the recipe their 
partner has written about.

Sweet ambition
My name is Talia Asp, and I’m from Bergen, in Norway. I want to be a 
gingerbread artist when I’m older because I like art and I love cooking. 
Gingerbread is a type of cookie. It’s good for art because you can cut it 
into different shapes.
I like making gingerbread houses the most. They’re like a puzzle. You 
cut the gingerbread into pieces and bake them in the oven. Then you 
put the pieces together and decorate the house with candy. My mom 
wanted me to make this house for her birthday.
My town, Bergen, is famous for its gingerbread art. Every December, 
we make the biggest gingerbread town in the world. There are houses, 
trains, boats, and cars. This year, my class made a gingerbread boat. 
Come and visit someday!
