page 52. Make sure students choose different kinds of
technology (not cell phones and not the Internet if you

make notes in both columns of the chart.
1 7 Write an essay about the good and bad things about a kind of technology. •
Ask students to look back at Robert’s essay and to
think about the topic of each paragraph (the first is
an introduction to the topic; the second covers all the
good things about cell phones; the third is about the
bad things; and the final part of the essay gives
Robert’s opinion).

Students write their own essay in the space provided.
Encourage them to use a similar structure to Robert
and to avoid stating their personal opinion (
I think … )
until the end. They use their notes from activity
1
6 to
help them.

Students can read each other’s essays and say which
have the best arguments.
