Ask students to draw the solar system to show where
the different planets are in relation to the Sun, which
is the smallest/biggest, etc. They try to do this from
memory, then check with Student’s Book page 8
9
.

Draw a diagram of the solar system on the board,
with students helping you to place the planets and
telling you about color, size, etc.
Student’s Book page 8
6 Find out about a planet in our solar system.
Write a factfile about it.

Use the example project in the Student’s Book to present
factfile
. Copy the text on the board:
Planet name: Venus
Size: about the same as Earth
Position from the Sun: second from Sun
Orbit around the Sun: 225 days
Fun fact: Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system.

Ask questions and explain any new language in the
answers, e.g.,
What’s the name of the planet?
(
Venus.
)

How big is Venus?
(
It’s the same size as Earth.
)
 How long
is its orbit of the Sun?
(
225 days.
)

Students choose a planet (it can be the same one as they
chose for activity 5 in the previous lesson, but it shouldn’t
be Venus). They work with books or class computers to
research their planet, noting down information using the
same headings as the example project. They can also
add new headings for other information they want to
include, e.g.,
Moons
.

If students have access to class computers, they can
produce the factfile on the computer, copying and
pasting a digital picture of their planet and labeling it
with a text box.

If students aren’t using computers, they draw, cut out
and stick their picture of the planet onto paper and write
the information about it.

Students present their factfile to the class. This can be
done using their digital file on the interactive whiteboard
or by presenting and describing their written work to
the class.

The completed projects can then be displayed in the
classroom or kept in digital folders.
