5 Imagine a story about someone being 
resourceful. Make notes about what he/she did.
• 
Review the meaning of 
resourceful
. Students imagine a 
story about someone who had to be resourceful. They 
work individually to complete the chart. Circulate and 
help with language and ideas.
Key:
 
Answers will vary, but make sure students have 
written the items the person didn’t have on the left and 
possible things to use to replace them on the right.

6 Write a story about someone being resourceful.

Students use the story in activity

2 and their chart 
in activity

5 to write their own story. They could also 
illustrate it on a separate piece of paper. 
• 
Make sure that students are using the past tense 
correctly and encourage them to start with a phrase such 
as 
One day / Last weekend / Last summer
and to include 
verbs followed by the infinitive with 
to
(e.g., 
forget to, 
try to, have to, need to
) in their story. Students can then 
read each other’s stories.
Ending the lesson
• 
Students work in pairs. Student A closes his/her book.
Student B looks at the text about Ben Taylor. Student A 
says everything he/she can remember, e.g., what Ben 
does, where he went, which animals he filmed. Student B 
checks and helps/corrects. Then they swap roles.
