A fire watch is required when a fire protection system (fire alarm or sprinkler system) fails or deactivated within a 24 hour period for more than four hours. It is required during the periods of occupancy until such repairs, renovations or additions are completed to bring the system back to full operational service. In the judgment of EHS Fire Safety Officer, Fire Watch maybe required for Hot Work in occupied spaces-- confer with EHS for additional requirements.
Notify the University Police Dispatcher if a fire is discovered by calling 9-1-1 Dispatch Center with the exact address and type of emergency.
Notify occupants of the facility of the need to evacuate. If the sirens or public address function of the alarm system are still functional, use them to assist with the evacuation.
Determine at least one means of communication with the University Police Dispatcher. The means for communicating with the University Police Dispatcher is a cellular phone.
