THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT MYCORRHIZAE SPECIES ON THE VEGETATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF SOME ROOTSTOCKS
ABSTRACT
In this research the effects of five vesicular-arbuscular endomycorrhiza (G. mosseae, G. etunicatum, G. Caledonium, G. clarum and mixed) infections on the vegetative plant development which consisted of stem-shoot diameter, shoot extention, shıoot development rate and leaf area of four grape rootstocks (41 B, 420 A, Rupestris du Lot and 1103 P) were investigated. Cuttings of grape rootstocks were rooted under mist propagation in a media containing perlit and, then, the rooted cuttings were inoculated with 40 g inoculum per plant, transferring into polyethylene tube which contained sterile soil mixture.
Endomycorrhizal formations, did not affect the stem diameter of the grape rootstocks. However, G. mosseae was found to be the most effective mycorrhiza for increased shoot growth and diameter in grape rootstocks. Mycorrhizal infections significantly increased leaf size in all grape rootstocks compared to the untreated ones, especially with G. etunicatum. In conclusion, G. mosseae and G. etunicatum were considered to be the most effective fungi for the grape rootstocks tested as to their vegetative developments. Integrating these VAM fungi into the nursery propagation processes of the grape rootstocks may contribute to organic grape culture.
